Amp is a mustang 1, into a pc running xp pro.

I wanted this amp so I could record direct to my pc. I use a pretty old version of a program I bought a while back called nTrack, however I also tried this with audacity as well. The problem is I can't adjust the input level of the signal coming from the amp (internally via usb) to the recording software, so it records kind of "light" and I have to adjust the track afterwards. I feel that I'm missing some of the subtleties of my playing because of this.

I'd like to get the level set right when recording. The properties for the "Mustang Amplifier" in the windows volume properties don't show any volume controls available.

Thanks!

No sure of those programs...but I use WAVOSAUR and it allows you to increase the volume after you've recorded a track then you can mix it with a backing track or whatever...Its a tiny program 225kb i think.. runs great in vista ..should work with xp.

Thanks for the pointer to that program, looks useful!

The nTrack program has a "normalize" function that will raise the levels of a given track, and I can also crank up the track volume after the fact.

The issue though is the noise floor goes up when doing either. If the track could be recorded hotter it wouldn't be an issue.

I've been searching and searching and haven't found an answer. Being able to adjust the input signal level seems pretty basic, was sort of hoping I just missed something obvious.

I see what you mean now... Yeah, sounds true... I was trying to put the level up higher
myself...but it seems to reach a maximum and always remained lower volume after recording than my backing tracks...

I'm no Pro...and I actually only tried recording once with the Mustang - few days after I got the AMP w/ Wavosaur, just to test out this USB thing....(guess I'm illiterate to track recording software...I have no clue)...I'm sure there's a way, since other peoples recordings, on the Mustang that I've heard, have come out great..so lets hope they can help.

My direct clips have come out ok as well, but I think they would be better if I could get the recording level set accurately.

Bumping this thread...

I started using Mixcraft a couple of days ago and noticed there is no way in mixcraft to increase the volume of usb recorded mustang. The relative recording level is very low in mixcraft, as it is in other recording software I use (ntrack and audacity).

I have some computer programming chops, but know little about audio and usb programming. I'm guessing that the USB audio interface for the mustang is lacking a mixer?

Is this something that's going to be fixed in the future?

... :?: but your right, some software update should be written, seems so incomplete in the design department :? ... maybe there's an add on someone can find already out there.

I guess I just don't understand why there can't be a level adjustment pre-recording. It seems like it should be possible, but maybe there is some technical reason?

I got it to work with audacity today, see my other threads for the info.

FWIW, I didn't have a problem w/audacity, or other DAW software I've tried.

None of them however allow adjusting recorded volume of the mustang via the usb audio interface.
