I got audacity and love it it's exactly what I need. I just have one question, how do i configure it not to record things coming through the built in microphone in my computer without turning the mic off in the actual compute settings but within the program?

I dont know if I said that right but if ya understood it and know the answer help would be appreciated.

Is the recording device in Audacity set to Microphone?

To check look in Audacity at Edit>Preferences>Devices and check the Recording Device setting.

there is no option to turn the mic off in there. whatever settings are chosen the mic is always selected.

EDIT: never mind I figured it out, it's all good now and does exactly what I need.

In your Control Panel just go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound > Recording(tab) and right click and disable it, you can enable it again when you need it. I did'nt have to do that. In Audacity Preferences>Recording select MME as the top selection, see if that changes it for you. Otherwise just disable it under recording devices, the same way some may have to first enable the Mustang as a recording device.

yeah I did disable the mic but turns out that I had been recording with mic instead of directly through USB. so then I messed around a bit and switched to MME and then was able to select mustang amp like you just mentioned.

now it works and is awesome. BTW do you know how to make the imput volume a bit louder? its OK the way it is but I would prefer it a little louder. thanks.

Fender staff said the only level in is going to be your volume and gain knobs on the amp, so record louder evidently or just bump it up in Audacity after you get the track recorded, maybe you can just down the master volume and up the level in the amp setting, just a thought. Hopefully there will be an alternative someone can come up with eventuallly, like a USB mixer add-on.

Audacity has lots of Effects as well ..is that normal ? like since i uninstalled Ableton am I missing *Quality* Effects? .. I dint know these recorders came with ANY effects .. I thought they were just equal to a 8 track recorder thing...well, what I'm getting at ..I'm dying to try out a good Octave up fuzz like effect and a Univibe..is this possible in this Audacity (w/ a plug-in) or another recorder or whatever these are properly called DAW? This gets more interesting - thanks to the Mustang! . :D

Oh come on guys....Ableton comes with a tutorial that is available just to the right of the screen! It will get you SO much further than Wavosaur in the long run. I have been using LIVE since 2004 and no, it isn't something that you will learn in an afternoon but, neither is playing the guitar.

You have to go into ControlPanel>Harware and Sound> (Sound)Manage Audio devices ; hit your Recording Tab then right click in an empty part where they show the icons for the mics and what nots and select 'show all devices' then select the Mustang and under it's properties 'enable' it as a recording device ...

Oh and I am an Audacity user as well...it is pretty invaluable. Can't argue with free.

Hey All,

Mustang firmware v. 1.8 contains support for USB gain. You can save a separate USB gain level for each preset on the amp. In Fender FUSE, the USB gain setting is found in the Advanced amp tab.

After you record a guitar track in audacity add the compressor effect to the whole track that you recorded, this will make your guitar track louder and much better sounding.
