We know you have a 4-button coming for the III, IV and V. So the question is: Is there any chance the I & II could utilize it with a firmware upgrade?

What's an "electronic amp upgrade"?

Opening up your AMP and soldering in some new components :? For what its worth, when I bought mine ... I asked the guy if it came with a 4 to 8 button
pedal as well ..and was a tad unhappy to know its just an on/off two sound type ... I'd love at least an 8 button pedal switcher.. or even 50 :)

My G-DEC 3 has a ton of options off its 3-tier 4-button F/S and best I can tell it's just a standard two-contact 1/4" F/S jack. You don't need some fancy proprietary connector to run a multiple-button F/S.

No shitte eh .. I wish I'd known about the G-DEC's and SXCD models ..previously ... having backing tracks built-in is a major plus... Anyhow, lets see what the knowledge team says about the pedal ... you could be right about the firmware (fingers-crossed).

Here's the problem: Manufacturers always want to create clear tiers of features amongst their models. Fender really wants buyers to feel that the III and above are upgrades not just in power, but features. Fender will be strongly de-motivated to retrofit a cheaper model with a feature that makes it equally desirable to a more expensive model. Not gonna happen.

Same deal as Intel and AMD disabling performance features on chips and then selling them cheaper. They actual take the trouble to damage existing technology to then offer them at a lower price point. It's all about marketing and perceived value.

Will Fender admit this? No, they'll say "Gee, we just can't see how to efficiently and cost-effectively retrofit the 4-button on the MI & II. Different boards, too hard to implement. Sorry."

Or they'll say, "Yeah, great idea! We'll look into that! We'll get back to you on that."

Same result. Ya gotta lay out the bucks for the upgrade model.

You could do it with USB probably.

First off, no manufacturer would ever assign a F/S connector to a fragile and tiny mini-USB jack. They'd be asking for warranty service nightmares.

Second, the USB is implemented for PC data flow. Just not optimized as a F/S interface. I can see their head engineer making a face if asked to do that.

I believe the existing 2-pole F/S jack would be the place to do it. It's already wired into the proper location on the logic board. It's just not gonna happen.

Craig's List = $150 = $150 off the $299 MIII. That's my elegant solution. Then ya gotta buy the 4-button separately. Probably be about $75.

bummer
just saw this thread.
That would be a cool upgrade.
I like the size of the Fender II, but would not want to go to a bigger MIII just to get a 4 button foot switch.

Actually.. you can use three patches in a live situation without touching the amp.
Start with one that's not assigned, then use the foot switch to go to your other two saved presets.
I don't think I would upgrade.. I'm pretty happy with the M II. I'll use my pedal board for effects.

How would you get back to the non-assigned tone without touching the amp?

Being a blues guy, 2 channels can work for me. I often have only one in my retro amps. But if I was in a cover band or was doing a lot of originals, it'd be tough. Ya know, you'd hate to have to stick some pedalboard in front of this thing since it already has so many lovely EFX and tones living right in it!
