I'm wondering how effects work when they're placed in the effects loop?

Does it act like a real effects loop where the effects go between pre and power sections, meaning you'll get some distortion on top of the effects, or does it go between power and speaker? Is it an effective line level or instrument level loop? I Notice how the pedals change into rack modules, implying line level, though of course then the effects work on line level since they're rack modules.

I guess it would have been some real deep editing, but it'd be nice to choose. For example on some vintage amps that are power amp heavy, it would make delay effects get too messy for lead work at higher gain levels, but on amps with less power distortion you may want a little bit of dirt on top of it(for example if using a filter after the preamp for a stronger effect, you may still want a bit of distortion on top of it to give you back some of the higher harmonics).

Hey Electric Mistress,

I forwarded your question to Ben Rathke who is one of the lead engineers on the Mustang amp project. Here is his response:

"“Effects loop” effects are actually placed post poweramp AND speaker (simulations). The physical analogy would be to mic the cabinet and apply stereo effects at the mixing board. Ideally we would offer the flexibility of also being able to place effects btw the preamp and poweramp, but it was impractical at the time for a number of reasons. Note that these effects are still pre- REAL poweramp, so if you want post-post-effect distortion, simply crank it up! Kidding aside, this is a good idea and certainly will be considered in the future."

Thanks for telling me.

The only problem I'd have with this is that using any kind of pitch effects post speaker would sound pretty bad, my Korg Pandora is like this too, because the higher frequencies aren't been filtered off, if you pitch shift stuff up you're creating a lot of high frequencies that normally wouldn't be found in an amp. I don't use the pitch shifter on my Pandora most of the time for this reason.

Will it be possible to place it between the power amp and speaker in a future update? I think this would be more useful to people.
