Hi all,

I just picked up a Mustang II and I love it. But I have a problem with Garageband when I'm using the Mustang II usb interface.

First - there's some latency in my recordings. Strange enough it's not constant. If I start strumming the sound will eventually "catch up". Also - there's some white noise. This is usually also when I start strumming or if I get very busy (lots of action).

I've also got a Apogee Duet interface and I havent had the same issue before. I havent had a chance to test though.

Jesper

Some facts:

Garageband 11
Logic Pro 9
Macbook Pro 3ghz/512gb/8gb
Soundflower
Fender Mustang II (with latest firmware)

Until now I've only been looking at my Macbook to see if there should be any errors. I tried my other interface "Apogee Duet" and it works.
I've got soundflower and instant Hijack on the Macbook - installed by Airfoil. Has anyone any experience with these components causing any trouble?

Any clues would be greatly apreciated.

Hey Jesper,

You shouldn't be hearing any white noise at all. I'm not able to get any white noise using Garageband on a Macbook Pro and a Mac Pro. Is Airfoil in the equation when you notice white noise?
Regarding the latency, have you selected "Minimum delay when playing instruments live" in the GB preferences?

Thanks Loren,

Airfoil is not used in the setup. But somehow hijack and Soundflower is as they are installed as a "middle layer" allowing for redirecting output on a running application - as far as I know.

I'll try uninstalling at post the result.

This post motivated me to plug in and record some of my guitar playing with my Fender Mustang 2 into GB.
It was very easy to do, no latency or white noise experienced.
I don't have a lot of computer recording experience, but this was really easy to do. Thanks Fender, for making it simple.

Check to see if your internal Mics are muted. If not, they can pick up signals and cause white noise you're referring to.

Thanks bluesdelux. I don't know what you mean with Internal Mics?

(my problem is solved though)

Hi all,

First problem: white noise.
It's solved. Solution was to reinstalled Snow Leopard.

Second problem: latency
Solved. Just restart your macbook. Also disable wifi if you're having more issues with this.

Now everything is fine. I've got crispy clean input with 0 latency. In Garageband I've tried using a "real instrument" track with no effects what so ever allowing for clean mustang II effects. Also I've tried "guitar track" with the build ind Garageband effects.

Both works without any problems (0 latency).

Hey Jesper, glad you got it figured out. What I meant by the internal mics are the mics that are built into your macbook/the ones that came with it.

Let us know if you experience any further issues with recording your Mustang amp.

I'm seeing the same delay, static, eventual catch-up problem here on MacOS 10.7.1 (GB 6.0.4) with the latest Mustang I firmware. And even after things catch up there's a slight quasi-periodic click (no, not the metronome).

Any suggestions?

thanks

Hey Slyrus,

Although I"m not too familiar with any changes made in GB 6, classicly there have been two buffer modes on GB. Which one do you have selected?

Loren,

This might be part of the problem. Apparently GB 6 did away with that option in its preferences. :( Not sure if there is any other way to switch buffering modes.

thanks for looking into this!

Hmm... this isn't the most satisfactory, but it does seem to have resolved the problem, for the moment at least. I had tried unplugging and re-plugging-in the USB cable many times, but I had always done it on the same port. Trying a different USB port (core 2 Duo iMac) seems to have made the delay/clicking/catchup/static problem go away. Yay, for now, at least!
