Hi I have just purchased a Mustang II amp and have to say I am blown away with it, it's fantastic. Does anyone know if I can plug it into my computer some how so I can record the amp sound and mix it through Logic?

Hope this makes sense.
Thanks

Hey Montgomery,

Welcome to the Fender forums. You can use your Mustang as an input device for Logic. Just set it up in the Logic audio prefs just like any other audio interface. There are no drivers to install. You'll have to use another source for the audio output though. I hope that helps.

Loren

Hi Loren

Thanks for the welcome. I have had a look in Logics Audio Preferences but can't see where to set it up so that Logic can find the amp. I'll have a play around.

Thanks

Ok I'm not sure this is the best way (I was hoping to use the USB cable) but I have taken a lead from the "PHONES' socket and plugged that direct into the computer. I can now hear the amp going through Logic and the sound is being heard through my monitors.

You definitely want to use the USB connection. Refer to the Logic manual for instructions on how to set up an audio interface in the Audio prefs.

Acutally the audio input and output sources setup should be done via the mac Audio Midi Setup utility rather than within logic.

I looked at Logic 8 on my mac mini and it appears that Logic needs to set the input and output to the same device. There is no place to set separate input and output as far as I see. Not good! Hope I am wrong, but I can't get the Mustang to be seen by Logic 8 at all. Even after selecting it in Audio Midi setup.

Are you using the Mustang with Logic. If so, what version. Can't get Logic to recognize even after setting it up inAudio Midi setup. Thanks for any help.

Logic 8. No mustang amp, yet. Mine should be here next week though.

If the mustang act as an audio interface, not as a plugin, then you should see it listed in the System settings Default input drop down list as any audio other interface connected to your mac. If the mustang doesn't show up, something is going wrong obviously.

If you still have no succes, you can use GarageBand. In the GarageBand Preferences go to audio/midi setup and there you should see the Mustang in the Audio input list.

Hope it helps!

The Mustang acts as an audio input interface. No output. I think Logic requires the interface to be both input and output. The Mustang works well in Garageband. I am also trying the Fender version of Ableton Live.

Good. Thus it should work without problems with Live Too. So at least we have a workaroud. Record your take in GB or Lite and import the tack in Logic. Another one: use QuickTime to record your take and import in Logic.
Set the interface via the QT's recording preferences.

:)

Are you using Logic Express? I know that Logic Pro will let you assign separate input and output interfaces. In the "Sound" System Preferences pane can you see the Mustang as an option for input?

I don't have my Mustang hooked-up yet so I can't test anything yet but anyway:

In pro 8, we must create an agregate device using the Audio Midi Setup utility.

In Pro 9, the input and output can be selected in Logic's own audio pref.

Creating an aggregate device works with my Mustang and Presonus Firebox in Logic 8. Thanks for the info.
Hopefully this also helps the original poster of this thread. I didn't mean to hijack the thread.
