I kind of need a new amp for jamming and recording. I don't think I'll be playing in a band too soon, but I want to as soon as I can find relevant bandmates.

I'm wondering whether to pick up a Mustang II now and sell it on when the III comes out, or just flat out wait for the III. The III might end up being a 2x12 though which is too much for my needs, or considerably heavier.

What should I do? I'll be losing money doing it one way but at least I'll have the amp. But I have hardly any money to begin with which is why I'm looking at cheap amps.

At 40 watts, the Mustang II should meet most jamming needs, as well as practice. The 12" speaker is perfect. If you need more sound, you should either mic the amp or run a line out anyway.

Having said that, I'd go ahead and get the Mustang II. Others are free to give their opinion. :)

I have a G-DEC 3 Thirty (which I love), but gig with a Vox AD60VTX (which I also love), but rarely set it above the 15 watt setting!

Just my 2 cents worth!

Spend the money now. Buy the Mustang II. It's extraordinarily inexpensive for all the versatility that you get.

I have been caught in the trap of hesitating, agonising endlessly over choice, and perpetually waiting for the next upgrade. It never works out the way you wish.

You need an amp now. Buy it. Resell as necessary if your needs change in the future.

(By the way, thanks for the link to the Mass of the Fermenting Dregs video in one of your earlier posts. I had not heard them before.)

Welcome :)

The issue is that the Mustang III may have more features like a better footswitch, mid knob on the amp and higher wattage is always useful.

I've been considering a Mustang I too, as I probably could give that to my Da.

Ahh, well then. I was going to recommend the Mustang I first time around but you seemed fixed on higher wattage. I personally think it is plenty loud enough for bedroom and garage jamming purposes and you can unload it with very little loss.

The Mustang I is so insanely cheap you might as well buy it and figure out all the features and tones in detail for yourself. If you find you love the sounds from the base cyber engine then you can realistically asess whether getting a higher wattage, more expensive Mustang with more features is right for you.

Let's face it, the mythical Mustang III feature set is all vapour right now anyway so thinking of what might be is fun but impractical.

If Fender shows the MIII & IV at Winter NAMM, they won't be available for months afterwards. And who knows what they'll cost or what their features will be.

The MII is fine for gigging. You can always stick in the PA for more oomph. Nobody faults the DRRI for having only one channel. The Mustang II has 2. Bonus! Plus scads more user presets easy to access.

Only guys in cover bands needs mass amounts of instantly-accessible presets. And besides, the MII even takes pedals well if you need to go there.

I bought the Mustang II after selling my L6 X3L.
Its my 3rd amp ( I own a Mesa Express 5:25 and a Jazzkat Tomkat -SS )
At $199.00 you can't go wrong for a rehearsal/recording amp. I plan to use the Mustang II for smaller rooms. Mic the amp and you'll be happy.
The more amps, the better :)
