I'm enjoying learning how to use the Mustang II (and Fuse) with my archtop (trying to get a mellow jazzy sound...one that conjures up visions of 1950's smoke-filled nightclubs) but I primarily play acoustic (fingerpicking old-time/ragtime) and would like to use this as an acoustic guitar amp.

Can I bypass any preset and use the amp clean with only bass/treble controls?

(also, any tips on the achtop settings would be helpful)

thanks,
Jack

I simply created some "dry tones" using the FUSE editor with my Mustang hooked up by USB. You can still "further" adjust as the EQ knobs on the Mustang will still be functional as tone, etc. BUT only use the MASTER volume on the amp to achieve you satisfactory volume. I discovered that even when I got rid of the "processing" via FUSE, the moment I turned up th VOLUME on my amp(not the MASTER, the regular VOLUME), there was a massive increase in volume with a small turn.Added some hint of distortion and OD.
I do wish Fender had included a $2.50 mono jack in parallel with the input jack the would serve to bypass the main guitar input/ FX part of the amp and just use power amp and speaker!Even VOXs little $99 amp out now has that option and it's a plus!

My guess at why you get the "massive increase in volume with with a small turn is because the preset had volume turned way down compared to where the volume know on the amp was sitting when you selected the preset, then when you touched the volume know the volume setting went from the preset level to where the volume knob was poining- and that was a big difference.

I also imagine that if you put the volume level close to where it is in the preset before you select the preset when you adjust it you won't get such a massive volume jump.

That's my understanding of how it works.

Try turning off the cabinet on the presets, set the gain down and volume up, and set low/mid/high in the middle. This will give you a flat clean setting for each amp model to start with. By turning the cabinet off you will get closest to plugging into an acoustic amp or PA. Then you can tweek each one to taste and save them.
