I see from a guts shot of the Mustang I that the speaker has 3 wires attached:-

black and red ( with pull-off connectors) which are the normal spkr cables ( and would make it easy to redirect to an external cab) , and a thicker yellow cable. Is this for the Aux in?

The yellow is the ground wire for the speaker.
Red is pos, red/black is neg.
I just put a Texas Heat in my mustang 2

I'd be more apt to go with a quality, 2-way hi-fi/PA speaker since guitar speakers have a high degree of frequency response distortion built in to them, and the Mustang is designed from scratch to deliver the final tone into a neutral, flat response medium, not a highly colored one. But everybody's got different ears.

thanks for the replies.

Dont recall ever seeing a ground wire on a speaker before, neither in an amp or in stereo-spkr cab.

I always thought the negative WAS the ground as in a car battery.

How do you like the Texas Heat in the Mustang II? I am a big fan of Eminence speakers and I want to upgrade the speaker as well. What ohm speaker is required and I assume you just left the third lead (i.e., yellow lead) unconnected?

I am most interested in a great clean tone, so what has been your experience after changing the speaker to a Texas Heat?
