Heey all,

So i'm deciding between the Mustang I and II.
Tbh, I don't need the 40 Watts, because it's just for bedroom practice.
BUT, people say that higher wattages sound better at low volumes. (Like with cars, say you have a ferrari and a low-budget ford or something. Both can do 40mph, but the ferrari just does it better.)

So, Is the quality in sound noticeable at low volumes?

If it really is, I guess I can pay the extra money.

All help will be appreciated =)

If you are not planning to play out, then buy the Mustang I.
At 20 watts, it will be more than enough for home use.
My Mesa Express @ the 5 watt setting can get pretty loud. I used my Mustang II this weekend, and had the volume at "3" ... it was more than enough. Also, I had my amp on a amp stand, not on the ground.

Thanks for the reply, but I want to know if there is a difference in sound quality.

Alot of ppl say that more wattage = more headroom = better sound quality overall. And I want to know if it's noticeable between the Mustang I and II.

Anyone have an idea?

Yeah, the bigger speaker will be better overall and presumably the speaker itself is higher quality. Given the price difference there could be other differences in quality of hardware.

I have a Mustang II, because I do play out a bit, so I needed the extra power, and wanted more low end with the 12" speaker.

From reading I have done on some of the amp forums, a lot of the posters have said that other than the low end due to the larger speaker, there is no difference between the I and the II.

I didn't try out the I, simply because I knew I'd need the extra watts.

I bought the Mustang I for home use, song writing, just noodling in my easy chair, recording etc - but not gigging. I listened to both models, and frankly, at any of the volumes I would be using at home, there was very little to chose between the two models. In fact, I was amazed. I would normally not consider anything under 2x12s, so a 1x8 inch is way out of character. But I needed a great sounding tiny amp that could easily go anywhere with me, and this one sounds great - at low volume, and even at surprisingly high volumes. It has all the same features as the II, so for slightly over a hundred bucks I took a chance. It has exceeded my wildest expectations.

That said, I'm going to wait for a bit and see if they offer a III and IV. Depending on what they offer, and the speakers included, I may yet buy a 1x12 or 2x12 Mustang. Not because i don't love my little amp with the big heart, but because now that I have fallen in love with this series, I would like another that gives me the option for live performance with a band.

So, if you are really concerned about it, buy the II - after all, even a great 8 is still not quite a 12. But if you think you could find room in your heart for an 8" speaker (LOL), take a chance on the Mustang I.

Thanks for all the replies! I bought the Mustang I.

I don't need the extra wattage, because I'm only going to play in my bedroom in my little house.
And the sound of the Mustang I seems to be really good even though it's maybe not as good as the Mustang II, it's good nonetheless.

I probably wouldn't notice the difference anyways xD.

Now I have to learn some songs and try the amp out >:D (Just started so can only play Ode to Joy and Jingle Bells xD)

Sold a friend on the Mustang I. He ordered it yesterday. I've never played through one or even seen one other than on the web. I was immediately sold on the sound and features available. I am only holding out to see if another model is introduced within the next few months. If not, than welcome Mustang II.

I got the Mustang I for the same reason - was going to use it for practice at home only. I bought it at Guitar Center at lunch time. Then I took it after work to my band practice and turned it up! WOW - it was plenty loud enough at around 6 to be heard so i may actually use it for practice. I wouldn't use it for live gigs as we turn it up even more in a live venue. But for a coffee shop or a small club - maybe mic'ed it might be workable.
