I can't find the footswitch specified by Fender. Are any of the current Fender one button footswitches compatible? I'm tempted to try my SCXD footswitch.

Here's the link to the footswitch Fender specifies on the Mustang page.

None of the Online store links went to that footswitch.

I tried my SCXD footswitch and it worked fine.

Any fs w/ a mono 1/4" jack will work, but the Fender one is a great choice. The cable is at least 12' and has quality soft cable, not the cheaper hard/thin cable found on the generic ones. The switch itself is "soft", meaning one doesn't have to stomp hard on it, and it doesn't have the annoying loud click like some f/s 's have.

I have an old Yamaha that I'm using.

I am new to this - so please forgive is this is a stupid question etc...

I bought the Mustang I today and I am trying to figure out what does the foot switch give me? Why would I want the foot switch?

I just started playing guitar earlier this year and now have a few along with a few small practice size AMPs including the Mustang. I see a lot of AMPs work with foot switches but what does it really do for you?

Thanks

The Fender Mustang footswitch allows you to choose and play/save two settings with the footswitch. It does one function.
On another amps, footswitches can turn on/off reverb, EQ, move between two to three channels, and more.
For me, its a nice option.

Thanks for the reply. Maybe I can see a demo of the foot switch at a store or something. At this time I don't think I need it. :)

Go to Fender's Mustang I & II page—there's a tutorial video right there on the Mustang's home page which explains the foot switch. Should be all you need. Here's the link.

It basically switches between 2 of the 24 presets. You can go from metal preset to a clean one with a click of the foot switch.

I have been using the Foot-switch off of a Fender Frontman 212R 100W Combo amp, it's not the 1 button like the one advertised alongside of the Mustang (2 buttons, Channel Select and Drive/More Drive) and the Channel Select switch works perfectly, the amp won't respond to the Drive/More Drive switch but it saved me the $15 or so to buy it so I agree they tend to be universal.
After reading this thread I was inspired to see just how "universal" the switch can be and plugged a basic sustain pedal for my keyboard in and was shocked that it worked... to an extent. I've tried this with 3 different keyboard foot pedals and they all do this; when you plug it in it immediately goes to your Red foot-switch preset and when you press the pedal it goes to the green- but only as long as you have you hold it down. You can sort through presets while using it but when you press the pedal it goes back to Red and then Green when held down. So if you have a keyboard pedal your not using apparently that will serve as a temporary fix.

I bought my Mustang II at Musician's Friend while they were running the promo with the free foot switch. I haven't received the F/S in the mail yet and I don't have another to try so, I'm just curious...

Does the F/S effectively double the on-board presets to 48 with a red and a green setting at each preset OR does it just switch between two of the on-board 24 presets :?: :?: :?:
