It’s that time of year when I come back to give an updated review of this amp that I purchased back in February 2011. I play through this amp all the time and thank God zero issues after eight years.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again… It’s endless when it comes to making or crafting presets with this amp because of all the amp models and sound effects that can be combined in different configurations. One example of this would be using the 65 deluxe and pairing it with a 59 Bassman cab and adding tremolo. Then I will have a 59 Bassman paired with a 65 twin cab using tremolo and it just sounds so different..and so on and so on.. hard to get bored with all these different configurations.

My sound has really evolved over the last eight years because of the endless combinations that can be had with the amps configured with other cabs and all the sound effects and the parameters that come with them. Definitely inspires and motivates me to keep playing and that’s the best part of it because it keeps it fun.

Now for the downside… If and when this amp ever does die, I will most likely not replace it. Not only has my sound evolved over the last eight years but also my line of thinking. Now that the United States has the best economy in the world, I will only buy products made in America to support its workers and companies that are located here. Would I purchase another Mustang IV exactly like the one I have now if it was made here in the USA and cost more… Absolutely!

Also on a special note and I’m proud to say… I think I was the first one to preview the Mustang IV on YouTube when it first came out aside from the music dealers who did video demo’s. Certainly long before ‘in the blues’ and other big noteworthy music players out there on the web.

I said in the very beginning that the Mustang IV was a game changer and I stand by that.still today. I hear a lot of negatives about the latest series of Mustangs and that’s too bad… I guess I will never know because I won’t be purchasing any more. The original mustang III and IV models were a game changer on stage because of their simplicity and great sound!

Hi Matty,
You helped convince me to by a Mustang III years ago. Mine's still going strong too. Hope your band is still gigging regularly...that's my kind of music ! Hearing your Mustang on stage was very helpful to me in choosing what amp I wanted to get.
Hey, I just picked up a Mustang 1 to go in my living room...saving me trips upstairs to the music room. What a great sounding little amp THAT is ! Especially after owning a Mustang III for a few years, I wasn't expecting the Mustang 1 to put out as much quality sound as it does.
Agree with you too about the great economy and buying American on my next big purchase (if necessary). That deal on the used Mustang 1 was too good to pass up though. ( 40bucks...no kidding ... and the seller delivered it !)

My MIII v2 still gets played every day.
I did look around last year to see what else there might be - I'd like 4 or 5 dedicated knobs for editing the FX - hitting that big data wheel is a pain.
BUT there's nothing else around. GT100 is no better there and Katana looks much worse for editing FX.
The Zooms have lots of knobs but after messing around with my friend's G5n, their interface has its own problems.

My MIII LED screen lit up with random computer code last week - a restart fixed it but I hope it all lasts many years to come.

I have the old zoom G2.1U multi effects pedal. The Zoom still impressively meets my needs today whether I’m playing at home or out with my tube amps.

These days I definitely try to keep my nose out of the latest gear page and just focus on playing. The other route just seems to have a way of getting into your pockets more often than not.
