I really wanted my Mustang I V1 sounds to be handy,
and since the warranty is gone, and I'm short
on space, it was time to lose the speaker.

Here are the steps to make a bottomless
and more portable Mustang I V1

1. Unscrew the back panel on the case, it's not glued.
Pry it out with a putty knife or screwdriver etc

2. Unscrew the power cable connector, grab the nuts that secure
the screws, using pliers, and turn the screws from the outside.
I disconnected two of the cables to access the nuts.

At this stage, look at what's inside, take some time to visualize what you want
to accomplish, where it will go, what will be kept, what will
get trimmed etc

3. On the short sides of the amp, scribe a signifiant channel using
a sharp utility knife and a straight-edge, about 2 1/2 inches
below the top of the case. Verify visually that
your cuts will be clear of any amp componants.

4. Use a hand powered mitre saw (back-saw) that has a rigid blad‎e,
to make the cuts. It won't take long, as the side panels
are thin.

5. Once both side cuts are made, gently rock the top
of the amp back and forth, and it soon will
pull away from the bottom of the case,
leaving the 'pointy' top face edge
bearing the fender logo in place. There was
something like silicon caulk connecting it
to the (now) bottom part of the cabinet.

6. Make a cutout on the side that will fit the power cable connector,
drill two new holes for the bolts, and secure it in place. The sides panels
are thicker than the back panel, so you may need longer bolts,
or safe yankee ingenuity, as your plan unfolds.

From here on, be creative according to your desires.
You can mount the 'ShortStang' on a wall, set it on your desk,
fasten it to a telescoping arm, a mic stand, it's all
just common-sense electrical safety,
and erector set technology. Trim it further,
make it an artwork, etc. I'm gonn track down
another Mustang I, and do the same, then either fasten
both speaker cases together to make a 2X8 cabinet
for a Yamaha keyboard to benefit from, or possibly keep them separate,
for a nearfield stereo setup used on my soon-to-be-bottomless GT40.

Cheers

Don't have pics, but the top 2 1/2 inches of the amp
is sitting flat on an effects rack, where I can twiddle knobs
without stretching.

I'm might get some triangle shelf brackets screwed to
the side cuts, so I can stand it up, or make a hanger for the
top leading edge of my computer desk. Those options
would both put the controls at eye level.
Cheers
