Dear All

I am a total newbie and this is really important to me and I thank you SO much for reading this. I´ll try to waste as little of your time as possible:

I got myself a Mustang I V2 and a Yamaha Pacifica and just don´t know if the mustang is doing what it´s supposed to do because it sounds bad to me.

The problem is that might be two issues - bad grounding and faulty amp - or "just" the grounding.

So I already do know I do have a earthing/grounding issue at my rather old house. There are humming noises that disapear when I touch metal parts of the guitar with my finger. I plugged everything in at my office and that was better. HOWEVER, the amp also always does things I don´t understand and it does them also with just the guitar cable pluged in, so the guitar should not be the issue here:

In the "British 80s" setting with red color, even when the guitar is not played and from a general volume of 3 on (and even before that), I hear a rapid sucession of maybe ten or 12 "notes", even when the guitar is not being played. You can hear that in the first few seconds of the following soundclip if you raise your volume a bit. When I then slowly play a few single notes, they somehow "carries"/amplifies this sucession of tones/are being altered by it and the result is absolutely awful.

I managed to hook up the fender to my computer and upload the sound sample - could you please tell me if this is normal? (I hope my dropbox upload works for you, if you want to help me but have an issue with that, please let me know and I try something else)

And another one: This is the 57 Deluxe with the green LED on. Before I hit some strings, you can hear this ground hiss that comes and goes in a quick sucession of waves. The same then happens to the tones I play, they are not staying equal but a somehow "wobbly" - is that supposed to be like that?

And last, the "american 90s" setting with the organge light on. I played a few strings and let them sound together, then muted them with my hand... I can´t help myself but it all sounds plain awful to me:

I am very much looking forward to your answers. Right now I have absolutely no idea if all this is "normal" (especially these horrible "base sound sucessions in the british 80s setting... I can´t get it in my head that this is intentional as the amp is basically playing notes on its own).

Let me know if I should record anyting else or ask me about settings etc, I´d be more than happy to help you help me :-). Thanks you so much in advance

Best regards,
Frank

Looks like the British preset has some modulation, try to roll off the MOD knob.

If the sound change the effect is there. I think that the modulation is interacting with the floor of noise that the guitar is caputuring. Also if the modulation is in front of the pre this interaction may be weirder.

The noise you are capturing may be stronger if you are using single coils or if the wiring of the guitar is "low end" (i guess like in the 112 model, pacvifica is a wide range of price and quality!).
