Hi all,

I need to replace the power switch in my MIII v1

tried to fire it up yesterday, and the rocker switch pretty much, fell to the floor. !!!OKAY!!! !!!Great!!!!

I found what appears to be the right one here:
http://www.amprepairparts.com/switches.htm

p# SW-287

Description looks right. Any better source that I can check before I try this one?

I have no idea, but wow that's pretty crazy, never heard of that happening with any Mustang amp before. Well it says right on the website "Mustang I, Mustang II, Mustang III, Mustang IV". I'd give it a shot for $4.

It does seem to be the right part.. just wondering if there is a better place to source the part.

but at 4 bucks,, yea....... not much exposed here!! LOL!

and,, so yea,, so I turned on the amp, and felt something fall out of the back, and the amp did not turn on. I looked on the floor and there's the rocker switch and what looked like a small steel spring. "Gotta be kiddin me!"

it's good I have spare amps,, spares are good...

life goes on!

Oh wait, looks like I have heard of this happening before. It was just almost 5 years ago so I forgot! https://forums.fender.com/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=88197

I have to say, I've owned and operated a very wide range of devices which have that kind of power switch. Never seen this happen before on any of those devices. Now this is the second report of it happening on a Mustang amp. What happens when you cheap out on a part that is already cheap.

yea, I came away with the same impression. The same switch does seem to be used in a lot of amps and components. (looks like the same one is used int he Fishman Loudbox for example.)

and it is the same switch listed for the Acoustasonic DSP JR. I have one that's gotta be 15+ years old, and it has never failed. (now that I say it.. that's probably next)

This MIII amp mostly sits on an amp stand in my den just as a handy practice amp. It doesn't hardly ever travel and it on average doesn't get more than a few hours use a month. I use my tube amps a lot more than this one.

I had to laugh at the absurdity of it all.

just thought I'd post an update.

Finally got around to fixing my MIII. Turns out replacing the power switch was pretty easy.. 4 solder points.. Took about an hour start to finish. No real roadblocks or twists to it and happy that it's working again.
