Hi,

I want/need to play at low low volumes (night-time, apartment with paperwalls, etc). However, I suffer from the symptom of having no volume a 0 (on master) and WAY TOO LOUD at 0,5. At 1, the police will probably come around :)

Most likely I should have bought a smaller amp, but too late for that now! :)

I've read the various threads about the gain, volume and master volume, but still need help on confirming something.

If I set the master volume to 2 or 3. But then move every preset to have a 'volume' of '1' - then things should be manageable... right?

But my main concern - does that change the tone/sound radically? (other than being quiet and loosing air so to say).

Is this the best way to configure for low volume playing? Or is there a better way?

Thanks!

Aside from the alternative of using headphones, your best bet is to adjust the Volume Knob (2nd from the far left) of the Profile you have selected to as low as you can while the Master Volume knob is also as low as you can keep it.

Another thought, if you have some small speakers (such as those used with computers, etc.) that may sound decent while at low volumes, you could try and connect them to the headphones output jack. Otherwise, the only signal outputs on the upper model Mustang Amps (III, IV, V) would be the 1/4" FX Loop Sends or XLR Line Outs. These could feed external Monitors set to low volume.

thanks. Indeed, I went through all my patches and set volume to be 1.2 - thus allowing me to have a little more control over the master control. I can now go upto 4! :)

Cheers.

I have MIII and don't have this issue at all... in fact, it's part of why I like the amp so much!

Have you played with the Volume and Master together? Also, volume on guitar?

Neither volume control alters tone - that only happens on valve/tube amps.
Only gain changes tone here.
Of course louder always sounds better!

Agreed the tone shouldn't be different due to changes in the various GAIN/VOLUME controls.

I think the concept of "gain staging" is important with these digital amps though. A simple explanation: You don't want any one of those volume/gain controls turned all the way down, while another volume/gain control is cranked all the way up. Try to balance the volume and gain controls against each other so they are all somewhere in the middle of their individual range of settings.
