I've had my Mustang 2 for about 2 years and have play via headphones almost exclusively ... downloaded presets ALWAYS sound great, and what I expected when I download or build one.

I have recently finished my "man cave", so I can play without disturbing the rest of the house... however, now that I don't have to use headphones, I am finding my amp sounds basically horrible on it's own.(guitar). Then aux input sounds "normal" when I'm only pushing computer audio through it.

Is there a preferred "environment" to improve the sound? i.e. Sitting on a carpeted floor as opposed to concrete or wood. Could my speaker be damaged somehow?

The amp is currently sitting inside a large workbench I built in.

Any tips??

thanks in advance

You will get the truest sound from your speaker if it is pointed directly at hour head.

I put my Mustang III v2 on an amp stand that tilts, then position it so it points at my head like a monitor and then XLR or mic to the house.

If your amp is on the floor pointed away from you, it's not going to sound very much like what you hear in the directed sound of your headphones.

Try playing as you walk around, closer and further away from your amp to test this if you've never noticed it before. Then angle it up and turn your back or at least sideways to minimize feedback and try again.

I think that maybe the biggest difference is just a matter of getting accustomed to not having the sound in the headphones, (both ears, stereo) vs. a single point of reference from the speaker.

you also have a pretty much unused and unbroken in speaker if all you have ever used is the headphone.

If you create presets using headphones, it's to be expected that it will sound vastly different when using the speaker. It's the same if you build your presets at low volume, and then listen to it at playing volume.

THAT is an excellent observation... I have never even once, used the headphone jack in either of my mustang amps (III and IV)..

I'm just the opposite, I even keep a dummy plug in the line-out,
as I'm almost always monitoring via computer.
I only heard the speaker by mistake when I had used
headphones on the amp itself, and forgot to replace the dummy.

Stereo-to-mono adaptors for the headphones input
might help when crafting sounds designed for live use,
but only the actual gear that goes on stage can be relied on
as the determining factor for finalizing presets.
Fortunately if you can afford a Mustang, you can afford two!
Cheers
