Hi
I'm currently using a Mustang l (20watt) amp for home use and quiet rehearsals with others. I have modified most of the presets using the Fuse software on my computer, in order to get a variety of sounds to suit each of our songs.
However, I now have a dilemma. I would like to keep this amp for home use and recording, but I need a larger one for hall rehearsals and gigs. I was considering the Mustang lll (100watt), so that I could use the Fuse software in order to get the same sounds that I have on the small amp. But it looks as though this range of amps is being discontinued, and replaced by the Mustang GT series.
If I was to buy the Mustang GT instead, would I be able to migrate my current settings, either using a direct link to my Mustang l, or from the Fuse software? Or would I need to set everything up on the amp from scratch?
Hope this all makes sense, and that someone may be able to enlighten me. Many thanks.

ps - I am posting this on the Mustang l/ll/lll/lV forum, and also on the Mustang GT forum

It won't sound the same. Buy a Mustang 3 or 4 and have at it.

IMHO,

From the reviews I've read on the new GTs, which are all over the map in regard to people happy and not happy, (sounds/firmware problems.. etc) I'd go with the Mustang III, which at this point is a known commodity, does what it does and does it well, and will definitely be more compatible with what you already have.

Plus, according to PriceSpy the Mustang III prices are coming down.

Fully agree with the other post ...you should be able to land an exceptional deal on the M3 or M4 model if there are any left and I'm sure there are if you search :D Fender would have done well to leave perfection alone without a complete overhaul and maybe just tweaked a few things on the existing models

Thanks for all your comments guys. As I don't have an iPhone or any other "smart phone", maybe the Mustang GT is not ideal for me. So I've more or less decided to go for a Mustang lll or maybe a Mustang lV while they are still available. Perhaps I'll be able to pick something up for a bargain price if Fender is dropping the range!
I'll post again when I've made a final decision.

Patches made for Mustang v1 and 2 can be downloaded to GT but not vice versa. But from my understanding one would have to post the patch on the FUSE community share and then download to the GT amp. I do not think the two amps can be "paired."

Also, as previously stated, I suspect patches made for v1 and 2 will not sound exactly the same on a GT as they would on a v1 or 2 amp - but I suspect only some minor tweaking would be required.

MIII and IV are awesome amps. I think GT100 and 200 will be too once they filter out the bugs in the firmware.

To those who have a V2/V1 mustang and are afraid the GT won't be as good, i have some advice for you. Take it for what it;s worth, it;s one mans opinion but also one man's experience with both amps. I have both a GT 100 and a MIII V2 and have spent the better part of a month tweaking and exploring the GT and reading endless posts, good and bad. I love the GT, but the old amp has a certain up front sound that some people miss about the V1/V2 amps. What i did was put them side by side and try and make the GT sound like the MIII. I honestly didn't think it would, but it only took about 3 minutes and i had my fav model/patch on both amps sounding almost exactly like the MIII on the GT. You can hear a difference in that the GT is better quality, but the basic tone is so close it's like being able to have my MIII and GT in the same amp. I found that if you tweak the GT by itself you tend to end up with a very smooth sort of sound unlike the crunchier more in your face sounding MIII. But if you put them side by side and try and copy one to the other, the GT IS capable of copping the MIII and doing a better job of it due to the improved processing power. The MIII however can't even come close to the smooth rich tones the GT is capable of. They are both worthy sounds but the GT has em all in one box. The trick is, if you like your old mustang, try the GT but put them side by side and try and get the GT to cop the old amp's tone. I found i can have the GT's much more varied and improved tones and still be able to get the old amp's tone should i miss that more in your face crunchiness it has when i sell it. I initially preferred the GT in most ways, but i did think the old amp was good too and i believe setting the GT to sound like it is good for low volume home playing. The tones the GT inherently gets if you tweak it without the old amp to compare tend to be sound i think are much improved for loud volume playing. Smooth and full and not so much top that at high volume it gets thin like the MIII often did. But copping the old amp's tones with the GT is great for lower volume where you don't want too smooth a tone.

Anyways, thats all my opinion for what it's worth, But what is not opinion is if you like your V2 or V1 mustang, rest assured that you need not fear replacing it because the GT can get tones that are very close. But it's hard to figure out how unless you have the old amp to compare as you tweak. So best to keep the old one for a while after you get the GT so you can do that and see the difference and know how to get V2/V1 sounds out of it. If i had tried to get the GT to sound like the old amp without having both next to each other and plugging into each back and fourth to hear my progress, i'd never have been able to get MIII tone out of the GT. I have been going over it in my mind for a month....should i sell the MIII or will i be sorry? This ended that worry.

How could you have spent a better part of a month tweaking the GT when the first one you bought was defective and returned and the second one had so many firmware issues you sent it back to Fender for them to check out? Did they send your GT finally back to you already or did they give you credit to go buy another one. :)

You know, i am so sick of people on forums that like to try and find things to call you on and feel so good about it. Irritating, and it doesn't impress me. Are you this irritating in your personal life?

If you must know i bought the amp about a month ago and it was gone for 1 week. The better part of a month would be over 2 weeks a month and 3 weeks is over more than 2, no? Should i have posted and exact amount of days for you? The first one wasn't defective, the speaker was but that didn't stop me from learning and tweaking it. Happy now? I'm not because i have to deal with this much too often.

Geez, hold your horses and what side of the bed did you wake up to. I know a good psychiatrist who is a friend if you want his number. I wasn't trying to rattle your feathers, I just never read the *resolve* of you returning your GT to *Fender* and was just very curious to there and your findings. Also, usually a turnaround is typically up to a couple of weeks. I appreciate your posts and opinions but lighten up a bit. I am not trying to bite you. Your friend, :)

All done and dusted.
Bought a Mustang lV at a good price (£299), and I'm very happy with it so far. It is VERY LOUD, and it has 100 presets - 17 of which are basically blank for personal customising. I was able to load the presets from my little Mustang I into those without any trouble.
So, all ready to go now. Only problem is it weighs 47lb. I need to grow some muscles!

Congrats on your purchase. The IV has become my all time favorite amp. Had it out in a live band setting last Saturday night with some new presets that I crafted...it was balls to the wall all night long :D

I added some wheels and hitching rings on the side for a more safe and secure transport. I've had this amp since February 2011 and it's still king of the court.

Awesome! At least your new Stang is 25 lbs. lighter than that one trick pony Fender Twin. Also, look at all of the amp sounds you get and without having to lug around a bunch of effects and your presets are now locked and loaded.

Chiropractors and Orthopedics had a hay day and made a fortune from that Twin. I unloaded mine before developing any problems. Also, they make all kinds of small and padded dollies these days with excellent wheels. Casters are not my thing but better than nothing at all. Congratulations!

P.S. Also if you bought it brand new you now have a *5* year warranty and you can take that to the bank unless maybe your country only does the 2. Great Britain I think only does two, you referenced the pound in your price ???

While I'm happy with my MIII v2, I did mess around with the GT-100 briefly at GC and really appreciated the lighter weight! A bigger deal than I would have expected for me! but since MIII's don't sell for much used, I doubt I'll be trading up anytime soon... unless I win the lottery! :)

Best!
