Just picked up a used M II 100w. Playing through it for a while on low volume then suddenly no sound. Indicator lights still on, only can't change anything. Tried all knobs, nothing changes. Turn off amp then back on and it works again only this time, only takes half the time before the same problem. Any ideas?

hey Buzzsaw

so the Mustang II is 40w, the Mustang III is the 100w. I assume you have the II but just mixed up the power rating?

you could try a factory reset on the MII, not sure how that works for II, you can find user manuals on the Fender Support pages. It might be different from the MIII so I don't want to confuse things.

Try this first, and see if that helps. There's also firmware updates that you might want to look at, (you need to install FUSE on your PC and hook up the amp via USB cable. to check and update firmware on the MII)

Thanks, and my bad... it is the 40W MII. I'll give both a try

i wouldn't do either, because either can be seen as a modification preventing you from returning it in the exact condition it was delivered, giving the seller cause to refuse your return.
It should be up to the seller to fix it or give a full refund.

If it was purchased from a retailer, I seriously doubt they would care or even notice you had reset the amp and run the firmware upgrade. It also wouldn't void the warranty. Personally I don't see the harm in trying it before you take it back.
