Hello Mustang fans, This is my first post on this forum and I'm hoping someone here can help me out. My husband, a true guitar fanatic, passed away in November of last year and I'm left with about 20 guitars of various types and models to find new homes for. One of his favorites, a Fender Mustang, has me puzzled. He usually told me all about each of his guitars to the point where I could talk guitar pretty well with his friends. But I don't recall him ever telling me about the Mustang. I'm hoping you can help me to get more information on it. I looked up what I thought was the serial number (164195), which indicated it was either a 1956 model or a 1967 model. I can't see any other numbers, dates or other information on it. Can anyone tell me where I can look for more info? Thanks in advance. Here are some pics....Image and Image and Image.

Hi Catherine, I'm so sorry to hear about your husband.

The best place for this post would be the "All Other Fender Guitars" section of the forum or perhaps the Fender Lounge. Links:

All Other Fender Guitars

The Fender Lounge

This section of the forum is dedicated to Fender Mustang amplifiers, not Fender Mustang guitars. I always thought it was odd that they would use the same name twice. Creates a little confusion from time to time.

Beautiful guitar from what I can see, but I am no expert in vintage Fender guitars.

Hi Catherine

My condolences regarding your husband.

It can't be 56, as they were not introduced till 1964,

not sure where you looked but your 1967 guess tho sounds reasonable,

guitar dater (which isn't always spot on) agrees with the SN given.

Your guitar was made at the
Fullerton Plant (Fender - CBS Era), USA
in 1966 - 1967
Production Number: 164195

As strings mentions, the best place is in ALL OTHER guitars, this sub forum is for discussing the Fender Mustang line of Amplifiers..

the one pictured looks great.. could have perhaps been modified a bit as the pickups don't look original for those years..

if you want to learn more about them..

Best of luck to you. One small suggestion - if you have anyone in your family or a good friend who is interested in music, this guitar would make a very special gift and you would get to keep it close by.
