How many of you use this amp and what are your thoughts?

Seriously considering one since I don't have the money for a tube amp and pedals, plus I just play at home so gigging isn't a consideration. I own a Peavey Vypyr 75 now but want an amp that has more Fender sounds.

If you want fender sounds then - YES! It is a wonderful amp and you can get just about any sounds you want. Customize your own presets or check out the user preset library on here.

If you get on YouTube and search "intheblues Mustang," you will find great videos that will tell you everything you need to decide if it is for you.

If you're only playing on your own you could even look at a Mustang I or II. They do not have as quite as many knobs; i.e. It is harder to edit the presets from the amp itself (without a computer) but if you opt for the III just know you will probably never turn the volume past 2. I play with a drummer & bassist and I have never turned it past 5.

Keep in mind that it's basically an amp at the end of its life, not having received as much as a software update for years. A couple of the Mustang models have already been discontinued with no replacement.

Filter what you read through a realization that his forum is full of owners with post-purchase justification, and that most of those who got rid of their Mustang also won't come to a Mustang forum.

Also note Arth1 is a well known moaner
It's a pity there's no new improved replacement but M III is a very good fit for what you are looking for.

...and yet my v1 Mustang III is still kicking. When I use Fender Fuse, it works fine. I wouldn't call that "post-purchase justification", I'm just stating the facts: The amp still works, the software still works. Make of that what you will.

For the price, the amp is great, sounds great and does a lot of great things. The amp does what I need and think it's a bargain price for what you get. If the amp is discontinued in the near future, I don't care and it will take some compelling (free) additions to get me to dump mine to buy the replacement.

The interface on the MIII v2 is quite nice IMO as is the sound... plus, as you say, the cost of a tube amp with pedals would cost me over $1500 to get similar results. Also, if you need a flavored line out, the MIII is pretty nice which is a feature most tube amps lack.

PS For home playing, the MIII v2 works really well at low volume (even though it can also blow your ears out!), so you can get the overdriven sounds etc. without rattling dishes in your kitchen!

:)

I've had a III and a IV for a while now. both are v1 variants.

Don't usually use them for gigging, but for quick jams, and as a practice amp, they are really hard to hate.

You could also look at the Marshall Code amps since you're in the market.

I've been considering pickup up the 20watt 1x10 combo just to kill off the mid winter boredom..

These amps are also great for home recording.

This recording was made using:

1. Guitar
2. Amp
3. Laptop
4. Pick
5. USB Cable
6. Patch Cable

I used Audacity software which is open source and free. The backing track was downloaded using Fender Fuse (also free). There was NO EXTERNAL INTERFACE and NO MICROPHONE.

Try that with your average old-school tube amp.

I'd say "3. Laptop" and "5. USB Cable" qualify as EXTERNAL INTERFACE.

As for a mike, well, many prefer to record what they actually hear. Real sound waves, colored by a loudspeaker and cabinet, and adding their unique audio qualities, which is what a listener would hear. Not an emulated approximation.

That's great arth, but all those wires are a pain in the $@! and sometimes you just want a sketch pad, not a canvas.

Oh, and I think you are misunderstanding, I mean an external audio interface. In other words, there's nothing running between the amp and the laptop except the USB cable.

Oh, I agree. And that's when I use my easy-to-use Tascam recorder.
No wires :)

Arth, I seriously doubt your "sketchpad" produces even close to the quality of recordings I am getting with the Mustang.

Can you post a recording for comparison? Here's one of mine:

Oh, and how do you go about getting your backing tracks onto the Tascam? For me it's a matter of simply opening the file in Audacity.
