HI. Just it a Mustang 3 limited edition wine red amp and have a question. The data wheel does't seem to have a lot of detent pressure and scrolls past the presets too easily. You have to be gentle or your into the next preset. Prior to buying this amp I checked other 3s and they all had varying degrees of this doom more than others. I take it this is normal. Is there anything I can do to tighten this up or just carefully scroll ? Otherwise everything else seems fine. Thanks for any re-assurance I can get.

I think it is normal. Maybe this is done to enable you to scroll really fast, bit of a trade off, I suppose.

As for tightening the knob..don't think it is really possible, unless you want to add some very fine sand to the knob ;)

Your footswitch allows you to scroll very precise, but very slow, of course.

I have two Mustangs. The Data Wheel detents and rotation encoder response on both seem to be the same.

If your amp is notably different than others you have tried at store, or other owners' amps, then exchange it at the store, or contact Fender for Tech support/service.

Thanks MusicLaw. I am inclined to believe that this is the way it is. I may call Fender just to get their opinion. I was just concerned how the selecting felt. I have a g-dec 3 thirty that is much tighter but as they say that was then this is now. Thanks

I had same problem. My wheel was also vibrating making buzzing noise. Here's a fix I did...
Carefully pull straight up on the data wheel and it will pop off. It is pressure fit on the pot shaft. The wheel is hollow. Cut a piece of soft black foam in a round shape slightly bigger than the wheel (with a hole in the center for the shaft) and push it inside the wheel. About 1/8 inch sticking out. Then push it back on the pot shaft on the amp.
I found it works good. No more buzzing, and not as sensitive when turning.. It stays tighter in place with the pressure of the foam pushing against the amp surface.
