I plan on buying a mixer that is capable to run phantom power. I want to connect a condenser microphone + 2 XLR outputs from Mustang III to mic preamp XLR ins on the mixer. Now if I turn on phantom to supply the mic, will it fry something or not? I know that I can use an adapter and go straight with ordinary RCA cable to simple 1/4" line in but that's not the point those XLRs were put in in the amp. Does anyone tried such setup and can confirm it is 100% safe ?

You may want to glance at the Mustang's schematics for your model (PDFs available on the Mustang Wikia). I'd be surprised if the Mustangs' design includes the necessary blocking caps to protect the XLR Outs against phantom power.

If the console you're considering does not have switchable phantom power per channel, you will need to protect the Mustang's connections if you use the board to power your mic. Otherwise, power the mic independently.

Really? If the guy at the mixer doesn't know what he's doing or makes a mistake, he could get my Mustang? That sounds incredibly short sighted and a poor design.

Can someone from Fender address this? (No I should not have to look at internal schematics to get an answer).

I also have a Rumble v3 bass amp, I wonder if it could have a similar problem.

Hold your horses. :-)

Which mixer is the determining factor? You either have switchable phantom power for each XLR channel or not and if the board doesn't have phantom power you buy an individual phantom power supply which starts at about $15.00. End of story!

I don't understand this last answer.
What we'rw discussing is that if the mixer sends phantom power to the amp it could fry the amp. A good example would be a mixer that does support phantom power but does not switch it on a per-line basis. The singer says "hey I need phantom power on my mic" and your amp goes boom.
I always assumed there was nothing the sound guy could do that could damage my mustang.

Okay, I see your point because sound guys can pretty much do anything including a thing called electrocution along with burning down the house.
