Allright, time to make my first post on the fender forums :-) Here is my question: Which headphones have you noticed to be best for the Mustang III v2 ? People also talk about amps not being able to benefit from higher end hifi headphones, is this the case with the mustang III v2 ? Will it benefit from let's say ATH-M50X's that ive been eyeballing ?

It is subjective because no two ears are alike but I would be very attentive to how comfortable they feel and how hot closed-back headphones can get. I have a whole bunch of closed-back Sony MDR-V600 in my studio and ears get hot. You might find open-back headphones are more comfortable. They bleed but who cares for listening to your amp. Capiche!

I use Sony MDR-V6 with mine. Or, I use Shure SE530 IEMs.

Anything you might connect to the Mustang's AuxIn you will hear with full fidelity through the headphone out. Each set of headphones or ear buds will have their own characteristics. The cab's Celestion speaker's freq response is much narrower with significant rolloff above 5kHz as the spkr is designed for guitar.

The [insert colorful metaphor] headphone amp in the Mustangs is as far as I can tell the same for all models, and intended for lightly driven light headphones, 32 ohm or less. Not only won't you get any benefit from heavier driven cans, but it can sound downright crappy, as it can't control the elements. If using high impedance cans, a headphone amp is needed.

That said, there are some high end headphones that are easily driven too, like the US made Grado models. But they also cost more than the amp.

My first post also...

I have the ATH-M50 (not x). Having nothing to compare them to, I think they sound fantastic. Just wish I could keep from stepping/sitting on the cord so much.
