Hey experts,

I have an issue with my Mustang III amp v1.2. When I hit two strings at the time, I hear some low frequency notes that appears from nowhere, most noticeable with some distortion and when I play higher strings (g-b-e).

I tried a different guitar, different cables, different power outlet, updating the firmware, did a factory reset. I can't fix this.

Any ideas? Here's how it sounds.

Thanks!

You could have a couple things going on.
First and most likely is a speaker artifact at the resonant frequency. This is usually 80 - 125 hz, depending on the speaker. Almost every speaker has this effect. It is controlled by the mechanical resonance of the suspension. You can get a general idea of it by tapping on the cone and listening to the resulting frequency. The impedance of the voice coil goes up as the electronic signal argues with the suspension at the resonant frequency.
They want to produce the same frequency, but seldom in the same phase, so the speaker buzzes at that point.
While high frequencies may be above the resonant point, the harmonics may be to blame. When you hit adjacent notes, you create harmonics that are the sum and difference of the fundamental note. The sum note is usually not a problem. The difference note, however, wreak havoc on any tone.
Since the problem is built into the speaker, the only advice I can give is,"Don't go there."
Almost every amp has its sour spot as well as sweet spot.

Another possibility is a damaged speaker.
It's possible that it is a digital artifact, but different settings should eliminate it in some settings.

Hey,

Thanks for the reply!

I doubt it's the speakers fault, because, It does this with the headphones on.

Also, the demo I included in the post was done with the Mustang III hooked on the PC with a usb cable, and using Audacity and ASIO driver. Completly bypasses the speaker.

I think I'll give fender a call with this one. For me, it's barely playable.

Thanks

There could be a problem in the D/A converter, but there is little to be done about it. Digital is generally impervious to repair with a few exceptions.
It could be bad solder in the amp. Chilling it overnight may improve solder connections and make it sound better until it warms up. Put it in a trash bag to avoid condensation.
In any case, you can't keep playing it like that. There's little to do except send it in for service
