So I picked up a Fender Mustang IV a few months back for $245 at GC. But the control options for gigging sucked honestly... so I see a Fender Mustang Floor go up for sale locally on CL. Like new $100. Picked it up yesterday... where has this been all my life!!!?

Seriously, now I get the control I wanted at my feet for gigs. I don't need an amp if I should only have a PA available. I can take this for practices where we connect through a Mackie 1608. It sounds great through headphones (my Digitech Rp500 absolutely sucked in all way possible). For a little more than the EXP-1 costs I have everything in one unit. I'm amazed these are no longer available. I wish Fender did a v2 and included the added amps and pedals but for now I'll take the trade off for the control mastery offered in this layout.... Oh and I'm connecting it through the FX return of the Mustang IV in looper mode so I've just got volume to adjust on the amp...

I freaking love this thing!!

Yeah the Floor kicks butt. Foot pedal, all of those foot switches with a nice LED with tuner. All of the ins and outs you ever want. Built like a tank and dirt cheap in price. Bargain of the century, I am telling you. Take the XLR outs and pan them full left and right to your board or powered speakers and you have a wall of sound along with amazing on the fly control functionality . Grab it and go man. Love it!

While soloing I love being able to control the amount of delay with the foot pedal. Sounds awesome.

I am not crazy about the *sounds* these guys are getting but it was an interesting demo that came out years ago.

I do find some of the cabs sound like someone put a blanket over the amp though. The 4x12G I dig on my Mustang IV V2 sounds like crap on the Floor, but the 65 twin or cab "off" sounds good. Floor sounds great through headphones with the cabs on though. I'll have to setup patches for practice (through a mackie / headphones sounds great with cabs on) and patches for when I run through my amp (cab off). But the foot control for gigs will be invaluable so I can deal with this.

Also when running into the FX returns of my Mustang IV would the XLR's be a better connection vs just using unbalanced R/L 1/4" cables like I am now?

With the way and what your doing with the Floor I would just use and do what you are doing now. However if you lose the Mustang 4 and want to use just the Floor for a gig or something use those XLR outputs if you can and do not forget there is a physical output level control that can make a world of difference to your overall sound. Like don't turn it all the way up.

I picked mine up for $175.00 at GC. Can you believe that? It is true.

So if I'm running the Mustang Floor into the Mustang IV via the FX returns - should I be using the Looper or Normal setting?

The reason I ask is that in looper mode only the volume is accessible on the amp, everything else is bypassed but I find it to sound like someone threw a blanket over the amp.

running through FX return on normal I have to use the studio pre setting otherwise the preset will color the sound with the amp / cab, etc selected.

Whats the difference between running into the input of the amp using the studio pre setting vs running through the FX return with it in normal mode using the studio pre setting? Or should I be using looper mode? and whats the deal with the looper mode sounding like a blanket was put over the amp?

after further research, I'm guessing what I'm hearing when connected through FX return with the amp in normal mode is the cab sim within the preset selected is changed....

So continuing my string of bad luck....

I noticed from the moment I got the Mustang Floor the Phones icon was on... after some research, the headphone jack works fine, nothing is stuck, I cleaned it, etc ... the question now is that when you have phones connected the Floor's voicing defaults to PA System and you lose the ability to change the voicing, which I noticed the other night. The voicings never change, the unit always thinks the headphones are plugged in - and its not in warranty so I live with it....

What effects do the voicings really have?
would I notice it when connected to an amp vs the PA system option I'm locked into now?

I wish I could be more helpful but I have been out of town for an extended period of time and working on a project and have been away from my Floor for quite some time now. I do have a Mustang amp to practice with though. :D
However, while the PHONES jack is used, output voicing is internally set to "PA System" for all analog outputs (UNBALANCED, XLR and PHONES, but not USB) and the settings selected in the voicing menus are temporarily ignored. This is normal and is what you want for phones.

Are you saying that when your headphones are not plugged in you are not able to switch voicings?

If your phones are not hooked up then it is defective and it does have a major affect to your sound. Could it still be in warranty? Transferable? 5 years?

yes. without headphones plugged in, the unit thinks they are plugged in. everything operates normally however the voicings don't change - I can change them but audibly nothing changes. as far as warranty I'm screwed I just want to know if someone with a working floor can test it and see if the changes from PA to combo amp are really noticeable or is this just an EQ change - in other words do I cut and run or just use it as is?
