Who has used external effects on Mustang I or II? Most of the effect needs can be handled in house, but there has to be some that love a special effect or even a whole board.

Without an effects loop, being careful on order of the effect is important. Any looper pedals? Looper pedals are great for learning and finding that right tone.

Just looking for ideas and pitfalls of pedals on I and II.

I have used a looper with my Fender Floor with great results. I also use an old Morley Wah/Volume before the input along with a Radial Engineering Tonebone Classic Tube Distortion and a few times the British. All took very well.

On my Mustang 2 Version 1 for practice I don't need anything to add to it and I can squeeze out some really nice tones along with using the effects built in.

use a looper a lot.

Other than that, the only other thing I found useful was my TC Electronics compressor pedal instead of the built in one.

Kidblast,
Which model do you have?
III has a mono effects loop, IV has a stereo effects loop, II has none.

A looper is not provided as far as I can see within any model, but they can be pretty handy. Considering reliability, price and features the Boss RC-3 seems hard to beat.

The compressor is all you connect?
Do you like the TC compressor because you are comfortable with the use? Does it provide something the compressors on the Mustang can not provide?

The Boss RC-3 is excellent along with a couple of foot switches like the Boss FS-5U. The reason some of us need an outboard compressor or distortion pedal is because the Mustangs have a limited amount of stomps you can use at once. I am not Kidblast but who are you? Wally or Beaver?? Or are you an amalgamation of the two. <g>

I have M-III and M-IV amps

for the loopers, a ditto (the first smaller one) and a ditto x2

Regarding the compressors. I use a few, besides the TC, I use a route 66 unit, and an older Alesis half rack that is usually set for my acoustic setup (it works good there!). the Route 66 where my rehearsal rig for the band I'm play in.

Most of the time, I just plug straight in, but for jams/gigs if I use the stang, I'll use an external compressor.
The built in compressor, in my experience, just isn't as effective as any of the external stand alone ones, especially noticeable with clean tones and single coil pickups, with my telecaster, I just can't get some of the brittleness out of it with out using the TC..
