I decided to mod up this amp a bit; I did not like Fender's 1950s sparkle potato sack speaker grill cloth so I replaced it with a black one similar to the EVH 5150 III 112 cabinets, changed out all the chrome screws for black ones, installed the black metal corners for added protection, and added a set of casters for easy mobility. I have to say that this amp is built solid as it took some doing to get the speaker baffle out in order to replace the grill cloth!

does look good! I still have my lll v2, but it doesn't get used much anymore. it does make a nice backup though.

Thanks to everyone for the positive feedback! I use this amp heavily to practice at home and its easier to move about now that its on wheels, I take it with me over to my friend's to rehearse and jam around, my other gear is for live venues; Hughes & Kettner Grandmeister 36 amp head with a Marshall 412 straight cab in white w/Celestion G12s, hopefully soon enough when we all have time together we can get a gig again. Fender did a great job on this amp, between the amp having so many features, mangeable via software, and a Celestion + 100Watts. I am sure I could play live with it as well, at least it will look a little more modern with the changes I made if I were to put it up on stage!

Stargazer:

I stayed with the V1 Mustang IV partly because I preferred the carbon like striping on the V1cabinet rather than the V2 plain black finish.

You did such a great job and had the V2 Mustang IV looked like that it would probably be in my family room at this moment. :D

My friend can replace the Mustang IV tolex to white & the sparkle grill with a black one and add on the extra hardware essentially making all the changes done on my III. He plays guitar but also is an excellent guitar and amp repair tech. He is currently working on his own line of custom signature guitars. My stage gear, click on link to see the picture, is a Marshall 412 straight cab from the MG Series that has Celestion G12s and comes in that same carbon fiber tolex. It sounded perfect with my H&G GM36 head. I always admired the Marshall stacks that Randy Rhoads used and wanted that look but without spending so much money on a limited edition used cab. This cab was $259.99 plus about $200 in parts from mojotone.com & labor and the amp transformed into a classic anniversary edition white that would have cost me over $1,299.99. Professionally done looks like it was purchased that way and has fooled many other musicians.

He could do that for you as well if you like...I don't know what it is about white amp cabs, I guess for me they look very elegant and then crunch your tone thru them and all of a sudden unleash a beast!

Stargazer747:

Thanks, for the kind offer. Your friend does great work, and I wish him well in his endeavour with the custom work.

I have to decline the offer at this time, however, as I am currently in a computer/multitrack mixer mode, etc. and the present Mustang has to take a backseat for now. Such is the cost of owning and playing musical gear. 8)
Nice job on the Marshall. It looks terrific and yes it would be a looker on stage. Personalization is a beautiful thing. :D
Cheers!
