I purchased a M3v2 in May after using tube amps for the past 10 years. Has anyone else suddenly wanted to buy one of the modelled amps from their Stang? I seem to have a strong urge to procure a '59 Bassman.

Yes. I went from an MIV V2 to a Super-Sonic 22. After six months, I still feel it was a good move.

Got an MIII v.2, added an MIV v.2. Then, Four Les Pauls, a Sheraton-II Pro, a Custom Strat, and a Yamaha THR10C. None are leaving.

If I wasn't so cheap, I'd probably be playing through the Supersonic as well. 22 tube watt amps (the other guitarist and our bassist both own Deluxe Reverb reissues) don't usually get turned up past 3 in a band context with the PA.

And the Supersonic is a tremendous amp. I tend to kinda view it as the Hot Rod's big brother. :)

Since you own both, might I ask for your opinion of the MIII vs the MIV? Obviously, all modeling is the same but actual stereo (albeit limited by the proximity of the speakers in respect of each other) with 75W/channel vs the mono 100 watt had me kind of intrigued.

To be honest, I either had to fix my tube amp or get another one for gigging and just decided to have a solid backup of my own (as opposed to borrowing a 65 DRRI from the bassist). I opted for a backup. After playing the MIII, knowing it was $330, I was stoked and my frugality stopped me from going for the IV (though I did talk my wife into the 4 button FS). The MIII is now my main gigging amp, though I've yet to play it out. Please tell me I didn't miss the boat. :)

Rburd2, you're good to go! The MIII w/ 4btn fsw is a terrific match! The MIV's stereo FX are dramatic only when the Stereo FX Sends or Stereo XLR Line Outs are used, or both Spkrs are miked. The MIV's dual 12" Celestions do bring a fuller voice and move more air than the MIII.

Get the SS22 while they last. GC is deeply discounting them if you can find them in their stores, but charging full price on line.

I'm on a guitar forum, so I expected you to say something like, "the MIII is good for what it is but you really need the stereo to be a real guitarist. Such a noob."

I'm thinking this might not be such a bad place. :)

Archtop Bill, thanks for the heads-up. My wife may make me sleep on the couch for a week soon. :)

Another way to savor the stereo FX may be to use the MIII's headphones out or the USB.

I'd also been toying with the idea of using the XLR outs to powered speakers but, just browsing around, anything under 500 watts appears ready to break if you look at it funny, and I'm not trying to play any stadiums with dual 1000 watt Mackies.

Some are using 5" or 8" powered Studio Monitors like Yamaha HS5/HS8, JBL 305/308's, Rockits, etc. While others are using larger 10", 12", or 15" powered FRFR PA Monitors. I guess it all depends on whether your needs are in home, studio, or larger venue. And, whether you prefer a near field sound for reference/accuracy and recording/mixing, or, a bigger and fuller PA like stage monitor for your own monitor.

I've not used the MIII's nor the MIIV's dual XLR outs to feed powered monitors to blend with either Mustang. I do use the MIV and MIII together to achieve a blend from the amps that sounds distinct from either individually. See: viewtopic.php?f=27&t=99978

Single XLR out on your MIII? Mine has left and right.

And I was looking at some of the smaller powered speakers but I really don't feel the 5 inch speakers would move enough air for a live application. 8 inch? Maybe. I was thinking 10 or 12 inch to be safe and, if I go that route, probably powered monitors as I see no need for 500 watts per side.

Don't know what I was thinking. Of course, the MIII has Left and Right XLR Line Outs. If the extra gear isn't a problem a pair of decent sounding 12"or 15" FRFR Powered Spkr Monitors, one to each side of your MIII, would probably sound terrific.

I'm pretty sure it would sound great but I bought the MIII thinking I would just need the amp, my guitar, a small bag for cables/footswitches/picks/capo, and a guitar stand.
I've pretty much already talked myself into all that plus my pedal board. Granted, I could sound amazing with the powered monitors, but then I have to carry those, too.

Now I'm sitting here thinking, "Man, do I really need the pedal board?"
