I must admit, the Mustang III line out works pretty good for a quick recording. Unfortunately, the Musting III V1 doesn't have stereo line outputs. It still isn't bad, but some of the on-board effects sound so much better in stereo, so I usually try to use the USB interface for my final recordings.

This rough draft version was recorded on a TASCAM DP-006 Pocketstudio with my Strat going to the Mustang III amp, and the amp's effects going out to the TASCAM Line In. I also used a Digitech TRIO pedal to create the drum and bass tracks. As often happens, the earliest version of a song is more adventurous and therefore more interesting, although far from perfect. It was bad enough near the end that I edited out a section of the song, which was fun trying to make a similar edit with the video footage. You'll notice it because there is a jump shot and the guitar suddenly changes pickup selections.

For the final version, I ditched the TRIO and used a BeatBuddy for the drum track and recorded my own bass track. I added an acoustic rhythm track and then recorded the Strat lead using the Mustang III's USB interface. It is one of my better mixing jobs, but that isn't saying much. The thing to take away from this is that the line jacks are adequate, but the USB interface is better - at least for clean recordings. I suppose miking the cab is the ultimate way to go.
