Hi, new user here!
I'm about to do my first gig with my new Mustang 3 v2 - is it best to run the presets at lower volumes with a higher master volume setting or the other way round? And what are the differences in tone dependant on the set up?
Thanks in advance!

Tone-wise it makes no difference whatsoever.
You can control the overall volume a little better with the preset volume rather low and the master volume a little higher. The master volume knob is quite sensitive with high preset volumes.

If you use the line-outs, you might need to compensate a low preset volume by turning up the line-out level (in the util menu).

The spkr's tone will get smoother as it breaks in. The Mustang and FUSE Wikia (See: http://fender-mustang-amps-and-fuse.wikia.com/wiki/Fender_Mustang_Amps_and_Fuse_Wiki) has the link to Celestion's site and plenty of good info about Preset Volume Level adjustments.

Some of the profiled amp models in the Mustang have another Advanced Amp Master Preset Volume setting. Those that do will display the parameter amongst the Advanced Amp settings seen by tapping the Amp Button 2x. This adjustment must be resaved to each Preset using this amp profile if you want the value to be different than the Factory Default setting (the next time you select this Preset).

Note than whenever you select an Amp profile or FX from one of the Mustang's menus, the amp or FX you select always comes in with it's Factory Default value settings! Only a Preset's values are saved. Only by using the Android REMUDA App will REMUDA remember your preferred amp and FX parameter settings. FUSE does not do this.

If FX are enabled, many of these have level settings that can dramatically affect the overall Volume.

A Mustang III at Master Volume (physical knob) 4 will be loud. Very loud at Master Volume 5. This is a global setting. However each of the Mustang's Seventeen profiled Amp models has a different Volume level. Many users adjust their Basic Amp profile Presets (83-99) so they sound about the same Volume. These adjustments need to be saved back to each Preset. The same goes for any of the other 83 Preset (00-82) and any you may download.

My preference is to Gain Stage the Mustangs with the Master Volume closer to 4 or 5, and reduce the Preset Volume, Preset Advanced Amp Master Volume, if any, and FX levels to taste, then resave the Preset.

Alot will also depend on your instrument's pickups, wiring, pots, etc., the size of your venue, proximity to your amp, proximity of your amp to walls/corners, or, if you are outdoors.

Like ChrisH1, I found it easier to achieve low volume settings by lowering the preset Volume across all the presets and raising the Master as needed. But you don't want to lower the preset Volume setting to the point that the Master is too weak to get to your loudest setting. I think somewhere in between works the best for me. I like things to start getting loud when I have the Master set around 4 or 5.

Gain Staging is your friend!

Done properly, it provides plenty of headroom and threshold above the noise level.

Althouh the term Gain Staging uses the word Gain, it refers to all the volume, gain, drive, and level controls in the signal chain.
