Hello All,

A friend of mine recently let me barrow his Mustang IV and I misplaced his power cord. I temporarily gave him one of my spare cords, which is an 18 awg cord. I have searched everywhere to locate a cable that is 12 awg ( which he said was the one supplied) but I can only find 14 awg. Is he perhaps mistaken? can anyone confirm the gauge of the stock IEC power cord?

Even if it doesn't technically make a difference, it's still only proper for me to replace it with an equally spec-ed cord.

Thanks for your help Ladies and Gentleman.

A 18 gauge will do the job.
Mustang IV need 3 amps at maximum power, gauge 18 can cary 7 amps, more than twice amp need at full power.

No Mustang IV use a 12 or 14 gauge . I never see on any other amp.

Specialty big gauge cable for mod are available but are not coming with any amp.
If your friend talk about the original cable, he was wrong.

If you have an old power cable from a computer, it should work just fine.

Exactly. that's pretty much standard gauge for computers, the only thing I've seen different is thicker than 18 (servers), never thinner. Same goes for printers and networking equipment like switches and network attached storage (NAS).

18 gauge look to be a standard in mass production cable and are good for more than 800 watts input power.
IMO some computer may need same input power than many guitar amps

IMO, it is best to choose wire size based on Amperage, not Wattage. But with absolute certainty, 18AWG is sufficient for a Mustang IV amp.

You can use watts or amps.

Watts= amps X volts
