I have done a factory re-set, but, it can't hurt to do another. I'm also thinking it could be fixed by installing the firmware. Mine still has version 1, so I need to do it anyway. I've had games before that would "glitch", and a re-install would fix it.

I got this amp used, so, there's n telling how many presets have been programmed, changed, reprogrammed, deleted, etc, etc. The firmware may just be sending the info through too many "roads", and loses its way.

Now I am just curious. Why do they need to be matching lengths. I mean, I assume if one was extremely longer, it might "slow" the signal down, or take it longer, but would slight difference really make a difference?

Having the same speaker cable lengths can help eliminate (cabling induced) phasing problems that can otherwise be an issue with lower frequencies sent to different channel spkrs in the same cabinet.

^- Exactly...

will the differences be HUGE, if you use a 3 foot and a 10 foot? I would think, probably not.. but in practice, I'd match them anyways. if the head will rest always on the cab, just get a few 3 foot speaker cables, and you should be 100% good to go.

Uh oh. That raises another question for me. I play sitting down. I am unable to stand up for a whole show, or song, for that matter. With the controls being on top, it works best for me to place the head on the floor beside me. That is doable with short speaker cables. However, before this, I was using a combo amp, and had to place it near me when playing in order to be able to adjust it during the show. Occasionally this would cause feedback. I assume by it being too close to the mics. So, I was thinking I would place my cabinet farther back and keep the head by me. In fact, that is ideal, and part of the reason I switched to a stack. So, if I get 20 foot, unshielded cables, will it cause me problems? On most of our venues, I might even get away with ten or fifteen footers.

I guess I sound pretty ignorant. But, that is only because I am. I had a stack, briefly, when I was still young enough to know everything, and I didn't concern myself with any of these issues. Now I know I was lucky not to have ruined it. Got my second stack about a month ago, swapped the head for my MV a week ago.
The help and patience y'all are giving me is invaluable. I am very grateful to all of you.

Did Fender stop building the Mustang Floor Module Effect Processor? I can only find used ones at GC.
Seems like it would be a good addition to the amp. Why would they stop productuion of it?...if they did.

yep the floor has been disco'd... you can probably find one on ebay. no clue why the killed em off. maybe line 6's stuff was too much for em??? really no idea.

about the length of the cables, and positioning of the head/cab, naw, a set of longer (ex:20ft) speaker cables are fine. I see no real concerns there. When I've recorded, I've taken the main speaker output, and unplugged the combo speakers, used a 25ft speaker cable to place an extension 2x12 cab from the combo to another room so there would be no bleed in the control room. That allowed me to have the amp next to me to change settings..

so nothing to worry about there Gus

No need to worry about precise speaker cable lengths down to the inch.

If you know you typically may need extended distance simply get a 50' or 100' spool of 12 Gauge (or even heavier 10 Gauge) 2 conductor speaker wire (aka zip cord) from an electronics store and cut it in half. Then affix good quality 1/4" connectors to the ends and check for continuity. This way you'll have two matching segments and plenty of cable length. When you don't use all of it simply spool the unused portion at the cabinet. If you'll affix the plugs yourself, use heat shrink tubing to provide a strain relief at the connectors! A couple of velcro cable wrap strips will help keep the spools tidy and can even be velcro affixed to the back of the cabinet using easy peel and stick commercial grade velcro.

Here's another question I have. I have the MV head. I'm using speaker cables borrowed from the guy I bought my cabinet from. So, I have to buy some. I sit down to play. That means I need the head on the floor, beside me, so I can see to adjust it. I'm planning to buy 20 foot cables, so I can place the cabinet in the best location on stage.
Are 18 gauge cables big enough for 20 foot speaker cables?

Sure. 18 Gauge wire should do fine.

If it were me, I'd go much heavier, using 12 gauge zip cord and make it myself with high grade connectors and extra strain relief sleeves. I'd also go longer 25', 30', or 50' each, as I've been in lots of situations where the additional length came in very useful to route the wiring around things -- not always line of sight! Otherwise, grab whatever's convenient. To me the heavier gauge wire feels more substantial in the hand when coiling it up. These speaker cables need to be unshielded two conductor speaker wire terminated in 1/4" male TS plugs, as they carry current to the unpowered speakers. Do not confuse these with nor use a guitar cable which is a higher impedence shielded cable! If they look similar wrap some colored gaffers or electrical tape around the speaker cables, a few inches from the ends, to differentiate them from your guitar cords. Also, it helps to color code them for Left and Right channel, (for example, Blue and Red), if you want to maintain speaker channel consistency particularly if you forsee ever connecting them to separate cabinets.

Good news. Saturday, I did my third factory re-set since buying the MV, and while re-doing my pre-sets getting ready for rehearsal that night, and all the way through a 3 hour rehearsal, NO PROBLEMS!!! No cutting out, no clipping, amp performed as expected.
One of my band mates raised a question. He has a Marshall MG head, and he asked me, when he noticed my head is close backed, how it stays cool without a fan?
I'm doing an outdoor show next month, and it could be as warm as high 80's or even 90's.
So, is overheating a problem with these amps?

Never had a thermal problem with either of my Mustangs. I have used them outdoors when the ambient temp was in the 90's.

Although they do get warm with use, the Mustangs have no tubes, and do not generate anywhere near as much heat as tube amps.

To explore your theory well before your upcoming gig, you could try leaving your amp on for several hours and play it outdoors on a hot sunny day for several hours, perhaps even with a blanket draped over the head to simulate a very warm environment. Do check it periodically so as not to create a fire risk!

The MIII and MIV Mustangs chassis are entirely enclosed in their wood cabinets. There are no vents nor fans. The MV's electronics are identical to the MIV, aside from a pair of Spkr Out Jacks. I presume the MV's grille cloth is purely for aesthetics.

As far as I can tell. Is the M IV 150 watts mono, or is it a 2 X 75 like my MV?

And when I play the amp for 3 to 4 hours inside, it feels the same as when it's unplugged.
