Hey Everyone!

Quick questions regarding the expression pedal. Hard to find any reviews of it on youtube. Any owners have positive thoughts on it? How does it compare to a wah? Can you use a generic expression pedal or only the Fender EXP-1?

Black Bock Distortion. When I have this engaged I get a crazy hissing sound until I actually start playing. Is this part of the modeling because that is what a Rat does? Or is this something that I can get rid of somehow?

Thanks for all of the advice and support. Loving my Mustang!

I don't use an expression pedal, my self, but there are some youtube demo's that can give you an idea.

I still use my trusty VOX Wahs .. I know what I'm getting with them all the time..

yes, in most cases... a lot really depends on how much gain you're using, and your pickups single coils vs humbuckers for example

on page 2 of the amp settings, you'll find a noise gate. Just set the threshold so it cuts the line noise, setting it so that when you hit a note, the gate opens.

setting the gate to the highest settings will also effect your over all volume, so you'll want to balance this based on the line noise you want to remove, and the over all volume you want your preset to run at. of course you can modify this using the channel/master volume, then work back to level the preset volume with other presets.

I have a wah and the Exp - it's fun to have both - Exp lets you change any setting by foot. It can't get the silly sounds my Ibanez wah can get, but depends what sort of wah you like.
No, you can't use a generic foot pedal.

Thanks for the tips guys. I have a crybaby that works great with it, just was wondering about being able to custom tailor the sweep on the wah in fuse with the exp pedal. playing with other parameters like volume and gain/delay sounds fun too. Could not find any demos on the exp pedal that were not focused on the mustang floor only. You know of any?

I will try to mess around with the noise gate. Probably look up a video on that too

If I understand correctly, you can do as follows to change the sweep:

To create a wah effect with your Fender Mustang amp, follow the steps listed below.

1. In Fender FUSE™, select a Preset that you would like to use. In the Preset, select a STOMP type effect.
2. In the STOMP effect, use effect the pull down list in Fender FUSE to select the 'Wah' effect.
3. Next, use the 'Control-E' (Win) or 'Command-E' (Mac) to open the Expression Pedal settings window.
4. In the 'Expression Mode Behavior' section, select STOMP from the pull down list and select FREQ from the Parameter section.
5. Be sure that the 'Heel Setting' set to 0% and the 'Toe Setting' is set to 100%.
6. Click OK to confirm your changes and close the window.
7. You should now have a working Wah effect. You will want to perform a Save of the Preset in order to keep this Wah setting.

**in step 5 above, try setting the "Heel" to more than 0% and/or "Toe" to less than 100%.

Never looked for YouTube EXP-1 vids. There may be some.

The EXP-1 Pedal's lots of fun, and works great with my v2 Mustang III and IV.

I prefer my CryBaby Wah's FX, and this clears the EXP-1 to express another FX. Nonetheless, it could be used to control the Mustang's sweep wah parameter.

Each of my v2 Mustangs, have Fender's latest 2014 vers. 2.2 Firmware that allows EXP-1 parameters, calibration, and configuration to be done directly via the Amp -- without FUSE. This was not the case with earlier firmware versions! Most Fender's user docs have not been revised to clarify this.

The REMUDA App also fully supports configuring the EXP-1.

Regarding the hissing sound, some of the Mustang's FX and high gain amp profiles need only minimal adjustment to accomplish a dramatic change. Check your various gain, drive, level and volume settings in each stage of your signal chain to get the best results for each Preset. The Noise Gate is a great tool! Remember it needs to be set for each Preset, and then reSave your Preset! Only the REMUDA App remembers your preferred Amp and FX parameter settings when selected from the Amp and FX menus. These menus are different than picking a previously saved Preset! Both the Mustang Amp and FUSE always serve up the Amp Profile and FX menus with Factory default settings.

Thanks for the tips! I will definitely take a look more at that stuff. I think more of what I was thinking of as far as sweep of the wah was revealed to me in Fuse by adjusting the Freq on the wah stomp. But cant have wah and distortion so probably just keep my crybaby and just adjust it more. I think the tension spring is worn out on my crybaby as it is really loose. and since i was thinking of getting a new one I thought i would just get the exp-1 as it doubles as an expression pedal too.

Actually the Mustang's Wah and Touch Wah are the only two FX that are available, both, via the Mustangs' Stomp and Mod FX banks. So, you actually could use a Distortion FX from the Mustang's Stomp Bank and still have either Wah FX available from the Mod Bank.

The EXP-1 is definitely a cool accessory!
