Okay, but what's the difference? Just pretend your amp has 50 presets with 2 channels each.

it sounds like you want the simplicity of a Buck knife, but you want out and bought a Swiss Army knife.

The only thing I can thing of to get what you want out of it is to put some kind of preamp pedal in front of the amp and use the pedal as your lead channel while the amp is always on a clean sound.

But really, 100 presets is way more than I could ever use at one time personally, so doubling and tripling presets isn't an issue in my case.

? Channel switching is instantaneous, you don't lose reverb/delay trails, you don't have to cycle back and forth through footswitch actions to go to from one preset to another (i.e. say you have only one preset with a long delay but use it rarely, and that preset is nine presets away? Of course you say quick access, but you can only have three, and just not applicable in every situation, not to mention footswitch mode cycling).

Actually, I bought a Leatherman, and I was not looking for something with the simplicity of a buck knife, which to me would be a single channel tube amp.

strings, I am considering a two channel overdrive to put out in front, which would also enable me to use a detune pedal, since the one included in the Mustang not practical or usable for me. On the other hand, some of the amp models in there just sound great. I also have to figure out a way to make the footswitch visible in sunlight.

Also, 100 presets is way more than I would ever use as well. I don't mind doubling or tripling presets so much, as in I don't mind using the preset real estate, it is the practical use of them in action - the cycling through footswitch modes + up/down navigation in enough time to be applicable in a real world live use environment.

Don't get me wrong, used her this weekend, small club gig back to back. I enlisted the Mustang because it is light, easier setup/teardown, and am recovering from an injury. The Mustang performed well, but there were sacrifices that were made either for the sake of simplicity, or because some of the Mustang's effects are not up to the task. All in all, a very capable amplifier.

EVH51501, I'm presuming you have not seen/tried how REMUDA's Performance Mode works. Perhaps, because you don't have or use Android. If you get the opportunity to borrow a buddie's Android device (tablet or smartphone) check out the REMUDA App (free version). Even without an OTG cable, you have access to Performance Mode and the Help info explaining it. With an OTG cable, the Free version works only with the first Seven (7) Memory Presets (00-06), and you can easily Drag and Drop to reorder Presets and the Signal Chain within a Preset.

I previously owned the Mustang I V.2. I got out of guitars for awhile and sold it.

I recently got back into guitars and bought something nice (over $1000).

I am deciding between the Mustang III (with footswitch 4) and IV. The price difference is about $100.

I don't currently own any effects pedals, but was looking into Overdrive, Chorus, and Noise Supression to create sounds like some of the bands I like. It's got me considering another Mustang Amp.

Is there any reason why I would want a IV over a III?

Some things to note about me: I do not play in a band, I'm also not an advanced player, I just jam at my house, not usually at high volume, and occasionally I may like to take the guitar to a friends house. I've got an LTD EC-1000ET which have EMG pickups and Ernie Ball Power Slinky if anyone cares to know.

PS - I assume I just find the settings I like and put them both the same on switch 1 and switch 2 except one will have Chorus and one will have Overdrive?

The IV has more power (irrelevant in your case) and two speakers, so you could use stereo effects. If that's worth $100 to you, I don't know.

If the larger size and weight of the MIV are not a problem for you, Go with the MIV. The MIV includes the far more useful 4 button footswitch, and the 2x12 is noticably warmer, fuller and richer sounding than the 1x12 MIII, particularly at lower room volumes. The MIV has additional features that may be of little to no use to you now, but they may come in handy in the future: L and R FX Loop Send and Returns, L and R XLR Line Outs, 150w (2x75). The MIII is a fine Amp too! By adding the 4btn fsw option you're much closer to the price of an MIV. Either way you can't go wrong.

What about this (assuming you have both footswitches):

-Use the 4-button footswitch in QA mode. This will give you access to the 3 QA presets at the press of a button.
-Use the 2-button footswitch in UP/DOWN mode.

Now make your 3 favorite clean models presets 1, 3, and 5 AND make those your 3 QA presets.
Put your "dirty channel" versions of those same amp models in presets 2, 4, and 6

Now when you want to change amp models, press the QA button for the amp model you want.
When you want to change to the "dirty" channel for that amp, press the 2-button footswitch 'UP'
To go back to the clean channel, press the 2-button footswitch 'DOWN'

Therefore, my realization is that either I need a two channel OD or another multi effects out front. This pains me, because I really love the Super Sonic and the Marshall Super Lead. If I go to an OD out front, I need a good clean amp platform

Yeah I'm kind of in that place right now. I have a pedal that was a gift from my brother (way more than I would ever spend on a pedal, but WOW it sounds good).

I know it seems crazy as the cost is nearly as much as the amp itself. But this sounds GREAT with my favorite clean preset:

$239.97
Sweetwater

It's like 2 pedals in 1. The left button is POST GAIN which does an incredible impersonation of several Marshall amp models. The right button is PRE GAIN and is a Tube Screamer-esque circuit. But yeah... the price. And it takes away from the "grab 'n' go" thing.

I think I've decided to go for a IV because of the dual speakers / sound quality.

Has there ever been talk of a V.3? Then again it doesn't matter, because I can't wait anyway.

Good choice to go with an MIV v.2!

There's been plenty of talk, conjecture, speculation, suggestions, dreams, etc., regarding successors to the existing Mustang Line. None of it, however, has come from Fender. Fender has been silent regarding what, if anything, they may be working on or have forthcoming. Nothing new was announced at the Summer NAMM Show. The next NAMM Show will be in January 2017. Only once Fender were to announce new product(s), would anyone outside the company know more.

Wow! If it was New In the Box, $245 for an MIV v.2 is an exceptional price!

Even if used, you got a good deal, particularly if it is a MIV v.2 in excellent condition and came with the 4 btn fsw.

Congratulations!

If you haven't seen it check out the informative Mustang and Fuse Wikia.
