I just traded in my old Digitech TRIO Band Creator pedal this morning for the newest version, which has a built-in looper. I thought this would be perfect, since using external loopers with the original one never really worked that great, since they get out of sync very quickly.

The problem with the TRIO+ is that the effects loop was designed for external effects pedals or pedalboards. If you try to use them with the Effects Send / Return on a Mustang III (V1), you'll get terrible feedback. This really caused me to scratch my head, since I used the Send / Return jacks with my Ditto Looper with no problems (other than it getting out of sync with the TRIO). I believe the issue is caused by the way Digitech chose to wire the effects loop in the new TRIO+. They take the guitar input and basically send it out the FX Send output as a dry signal. The "wet" signal that comes back from the pedals goes into the FX Return input. This is probably normal for an effects loop, but the signal then gets sent out the "amp" output jack (the one that connects to your guitar amplifier's input). You can see how this would create a feedback loop if you think about it. You have your guitar's signal going out the FX Send jack, coming back in the FX Return jack and then getting sent out the amp output jack. This is not compatible with the Send / Return jacks on the V1 version of the Mustang III. If you use the Mustang's Send / Return jacks with the TRIO's effects loop, you are just creating one giant feedback loop, since you are sending the pedal's output into the amp's input, then right back into the pedal's Return input, which gets fed straight to the amp output jack.

I know the V2 has different output wiring, so I'm wondering if anybody has tried using the new TRIO+ with the Mustang V2?

Has anyone else tried using the TRIO+ with any of the Mustang amps? What were your results? Did you get the looper to work the way it should (recorded with the Mustang's effects, but not affected by your live lead guitar effects)?

UPDATE: This solution was brought to my attention and seems to work:

I have the Mustang III V2 and a TRIO+ working together well. Here's a run down on how it works for me:

Connect Guitar output to guitar in on the Trio+
Connect FX Send from Trio+ to Mustang guitar input (top panel)
Connect Mustang FX Send (rear) to Trio+ FX Return
Connect Trio+ AMP out to Mustang FX Return (rear)
OPTIONAL: Connect Trio+ Mixer out to Mustang Aux-in (top panel)

On the Mustang, from the util menu set the FX loop type to be "looper", this allows and cab sim in the Mustang preset to be recorded on the looper. Details on the Mustang chain here:

Using the AMP send for just guitar and loop of the Trio+ leaves the guitar and loop signals unaffected by any cab-sim the Trio might like to impose. Sending the drums and bass via the aux-in is done for the same reason. However you could use just AMP out or just MIXER out as well - see the Trio+ manual page 15 for a description of what it does to signal path depending on the output you have connected.

You have to mess with levels to get everything sounding right, but that is true of any looper/drum/bass machine.

Make sure you use only MONO cables. When I was setting this up I picked up a TRS cable by accident and spent two nights trying to figure out why the looper wouldn't record. Putting in a MONO cable restored it.

Hope this helps someone.

I got mine today, and it is an awesome machine.

I'm not using any of the Trio's guitar FX, so I just connected the Mustang FX send to the Trio's guitar input, and the Trio's amp output to the Mustang FX return.
The drums still sound like crap through the Mustang's speaker (which was the main reason for me to send the original Trio back and wait for the Plus version), so I connected the Trio's mixer output to my full-range active monitor.

I will probably get the optional footswitch as well - all this bending down and pressing tiny buttons gets on my nerves.
