So I am trying to get into some more distorted tones with the mustang. I have had the III v2 for a bout a year now and I really do love this amp. It is really fun creating tones. I generally am more of a clean/bluesy type player so most of the fender models have been awesome for me so far.

I am trying to learn some metallica/megadeath stuff and I heard mention that the american 90s is like a mesa dual rectifier which would be great for some metallica stuff. Even on low gain mine is super distorted. Any ideas?

my first post here thanks for having me!

Try adjusting the Advanced Amp Master Volume and Presence parameters for the amp model. Also try adjusting your guitar's volume pots and any pedals you may have in your signal chain before it reaches the Mustang.

To me, the American '90s (and Metal 2000) Amp model profiles really sound much better (seem to smooth out a bit) at high SPLs -- when the speakers are moving lots of air, typically when the Mustang's Master Volume is at 5 or higher. I don't use these model profiles often. Also to use the Mustang with its Main Amp Master Volume above 4 deserves a large room, use outdoors, and/or fine adjustments to all the other gain levels to properly gain stage the Mustang's SPL. High Fidelity Ear plugs are also a good idea!
