I have Mustang iii that I plug into the board for rehearsals and gigs. I get some noise from the amp when pluged in, kind of a static sounding, white noise I guess. I had a high gain comp pedal that I've removed, and put my color effects (chorus, univibe and delay) in the effects loop. That dropped the noise a bit but, still there. Turned up the noise gate on the amp to max, use a Boss NS-2 in front of the amp. Still getting noise through the amp. Even when I turn the guitar volume down. Anything else I'm missing? My only other thought is maybe the signal out boost on the amp might be causing this. Any suggestions?

that sounds a whole lot like interference or some grounding issue. Or maybe even overloading the channel on the mixer with too much gain.

When you plug the amp in at home, not connected to anything but the guitar, does it make the same sound?

The best method to troubleshoot, is to disconnect all components from one another in the signal chain. Once they are isolated, return one at a time to determine the {noise} intrusion point. Even a bad cable or connector can be the culprit.

Is the Amp's creating noise by itself when no instrument is connected?

Make certain that there is no ground loop anywhere in your gear: Amp, Guitar, Cables, Console, FX Loop, Pedals, Outboard gear, etc. And, that you have clean or adequately filtered AC mains power. These are typical sources of noise and interference.

RFI (Radio Frequency Interference) can also be a noise source. Fluorescent Lights, some newer AC powered LED lights, transformers, wireless routers, wireless phone base units, nearby power transmission towers, radio stations, airports, etc., when in close proximity relative to their effective radiated power (ERP) can all be noise sources. If this turns out to be the case, relocate your gear or the offending source, if possible, to increase the separation between them. The Inverse Square Law applies here, so doubling the distance will reduce the interference by one-quarter (1/4). You can also try using snap on type ferrite RF signal choke beads on all the cable ends connecting the gear as the cables can act as antennas capturing the RFI. Shielding the gear is also possible, but this involves greater complexity.

You can also try the ground lift switch on the Amp's individual XLR Line Outputs and lowering the Line Out Gain via the Amp's UTIL Menu to match the console's inputs level trims (if it has them).

I read that there was a certain way to set the dials on the amplifier to reduce noise─now hear me out...
Once your presets are made, I think the settings were all at 7 or something; I can't seem to find where I saw it, but maybe play around with that. Just be sure to set your amp to memory lock mode or something...Be very careful, though─one small slip and you could lose your hearing... ;)
