First, the setup. I've got two pedals: a Fulltone Plimsoul and an Ibanez TS9 (JCM chip, but only aged about 20 years). I am using the stock humbucker p-ups (Alnico V) in my Epiphone G-400 Pro, although I will be swapping them out for Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro Humbuckers (not Slash version) when I get the chance. My amp is often turned up to 4-5 in a small enclosed room, and my eq (normally) looks something like Treble @ 1-3, Middle @ 4-6, Bass @ 3-6. (All vary somewhat due to specific amp model characteristics.) I have the bias set to the *sweet spot* for each of the presets, and my sag is normally completely counterclockwise─I've heard (with my own ears and from online discussions) that that's the best way to begin emulating tube amps.

The FUSE presets I'm using cover the following amp models (Studio Preamp, 65 Twin, Bassman, British Watts, British 60's, British 80's, SuperSonic, British Colour, American 90's, Metal 2000) all run through 4 cabinet simulations (65 Twin, 4x12 Vintage, Princeton, and Bassman).

My dilemma is this: I am struggling to create a drive tone on this solid-state modelling amp (Mustang V.2 III). I would prefer to use what I have in terms of pedals rather than getting something else. I would greatly appreciate advice from anyone who has experience with either of these pedals in any situation possibly described above (or drive tones in general with the Mustang series).

Have you tried your Pedals through the MIII's FX Loop?

See this other thread: viewtopic.php?f=26&t=99546

Additionally, the MIII's Util Menu Button has a configuration Option affecting the FX Loop Signal Chain relative to Cab Sim of the Selected Preset. There are other threads here on the Forums about this. Use the Forum's Search Tool to find these.

There are also Three (3) reference articles on Fender's Mustang Amp support area listed under the topic of Effects Loop here: http://www2.fender.com/support/articles/?search=Mustang+Effects+loop.

Try the options to see if any get you to the sound your want.

Hope this helps.

Do post back your findings.

Well, I use my FX loop as more of a postamp option, where I keep my chorus and clean boost (and eventually, my delay and looper). The good news is: I found the problem. I had the Tubescreamer coming after the Plimsoul (which has much higher headroom), which was stifling my sound and tone. I actually switched it around and have the Plimsoul in the FX loop now for my clean boost, since I figured out that the orangebox mixed with my TS9 gives me the crunch I was originally dialing in with my Plimsoul. The bad news is: I no longer need my Plimsoul. It's a nice pedal, but I wish I had just gotten a boost pedal instead... :?
Such is life, right?

No place in any of the info I could find tells what the operating level or impedance of the loop input/output is.

I get great distortion tones using either the british colour or american 90's amp sims using no pedals...and decent drive tones using a fender clean amp model and the built in stomp boxes...I do use a wah and volume in front of the amp with no issues using my Mustang III v2. As a matter of fact, I have two Marshall DSL's, a Splawn QR, a 2 channel Dual Recto and a Landry G3...and the guys in my band prefer the tones I get out of the mustang!! Kind of embarrassing actually, they make fun of all the money I have spent on gear :-)

Thats quite a good collection of amps you have and a great compliment to the Mustang amp, I really enjoy my M-IV.

I've never seen the values published nor have I measured them. I just use them and have never encountered any problems. YMMV.
