Is there a way to record from my Mustang III v.2 amp directly to my computer? I would like to record using Audacity. Thanks for any help.

Yep, sure is! Use the USB out on the Mustang to a USB input on the computer. Make sure you have the ASIO driver installed (free on the Fender web site, among other places), and selected ASIO as your input on whatever recording software you are using.

If you're using Windows, I recommend Reaper. If you're on Linux, use Ardour. Both are free to try out, and are very reasonable if you decide to buy. Both also happen to be very solid, and have extremely low latency.

Audacity doesn't do ASIO.

+1 for that.

Reaper on PC. Nice software IMO. USB connection works fine. Have to tweak your amp preset Volume to get the correct input to your DAW. Sounds good to me.

I started with Audacity and quickly moved up to Reaper. Do yourself the favor of doing the same (or your choice of upgrade). Just real time effects makes it worthwhile.

Good luck!

+1 , again

In addition to tweaking the volume in your preset, you may want to boost the USB output as well. This is most easily accessed in Fuse under the Advanced Amp settings.

Thanks for all the replies. I'll download Reaper and see how it works.

Good luck! It takes a little bit of learning... but so did Audacity.

I really like this free compressor plugin: https://vladgsound.wordpress.com/plugins/molot/

If you do any vocals, these two are good free options: https://www.kvraudio.com/product/lisp-b ... y-time-dsp and https://vladgsound.wordpress.com/plugins/proximity/

I guess the one tip I can offer in the transition is the noise subtraction routine in Reaper is kind of hidden in the RealFir standard FX plugin -- they hide the function under "Subtract." Seemed harder to find than I thought it should be, but works great!
