Hi
I am really enjoying my Mustang III and I amps. Just got the 4 button foot switch and a jamman looper. Just scratching the surface with the presets....but I really like the factory presets so far! lol. The Looper works great throught the fx loop and using the 6 button combo has been real nice. I wish I could add a fx to a preset from the footswitch but I am still learning. I can add them at the amp and save and then take them off and on with the switch.

Anyone care to give an opion or comparison with the Sumper Champ X2? Would love to hear about it.

Haven't tried the Super Champ X2 so I can't comment about that....

As for adding an FX, your best alternatives are creating several similar Presets and saving them to adjacent Memory slots so they are easily accessable via the 4btn fsw's Up/Dn (Mode 2), On/Off (Mode 3), and Quick Access (Mode 1) QA 1, 2, 3 Preset assignments (designated via the Util Button menu on the amp). Doing this gives more FX variations than simply having On/Off of (up to) 4 FX Bank assignments. If you want variable control of any individul FX's parameter the EXP-1 Expression & Volume pedal is the way to go! The EXP-1 can be configured differently for each of the individual 100 Memory Presets and Saved with the Preset.

If you have an Android Device the REMUDA App (Google Play Store) has a fantastic Performance Mode that automatically swaps the fsw's three QA Preset assignments to your defined Presets when you select your Songs in your Set Lists! The App also has drag and drop Preset repositioning, and drag and drop signal chain editing. REMUDA does many things FUSE lacks, but is not a substitute for FUSE.

this might be more info than you're looking for but there's some good info here. Specifically check out the Stomp/Mod, Stomp/Delay and Stomp/Reverb configurations:

Mustang III 2-button Footswitch Instructions

Connect a 2-button footswitch to your Mustang amplifier to enable remote multi-function foot control.

Use the Utility menus to assign one of the following functions to the 2-button footswitch:

• Select presets (up/down)
• Select Quick Access presets (QA1/QA2)
• Bypass effects (various combinations)
• Set TAP interval

1. Press the UTIL button on the top of the amplifier to enter the Utility menu

2. Press the UTIL button 3 more times until the display reads 2-Btn Ftsw Mode. If you pass it by accident, just keep pressing UTIL until it comes around again

3. The footswitch will be set to Down/Up (default setting)

4. Turn the DATA WHEEL until the desired footswitch function is selected

5. Once the desired function is selected, press EXIT. The last thing you chose will stay.

These are the available functions:

a. Down/Up - choose this function if you'd like to simply scroll up and down through the presets. This allows you to scroll through all 100 presets in a linear fashion (in other words, you can't skip from preset 01 to preset 10 without pressing the Up button 9 times or the Down button 91 times).

b. QA1/QA2 - choose this function if you'd like to use the pedal to switch between 2 Quick Access presets of your choosing. You will not be able to scroll through the rest of the presets using the pedal if you choose this option.

c. Stomp/Mod - choose this option if you'd like button 1 to turn a stomp box for the selected preset on and off, and button 2 to turn a modulation effect for the selected preset on and off. You will not be able to scroll through the rest of the presets using the pedal if you choose this option.

d. Stomp/Delay - choose this option if you'd like button 1 to turn a stomp box for the selected preset on and off, and button 2 to turn the delay effect for the selected preset on and off. You will not be able to scroll through the rest of the presets using the pedal if you choose this option.

e. Stomp/Reverb - choose this option if you'd like button 1 to turn a stomp box for the selected preset on and off, and button 2 to turn the reverb effect for the selected preset on and off. You will not be able to scroll through the rest of the presets using the pedal if you choose this option.

f. Stomp/Tap - choose this option if you'd like button 1 to turn a stomp box for the selected preset on and off, and button 2 to set delay time or modulation rate settings for the selected preset by rhythmically pressing button 2. You will not be able to scroll through the rest of the presets using the pedal if you choose this option.

 NOTE: You might wonder why there are 3 Quick Access slots when there are only 2 buttons on the footswitch. That's where the optional 4-button footswitch comes in. You can use it by itself to get similar options to the 2-button footswitch, but with a little more flexibility:

4-Button Footswitching options

Connect a 4-button footswitch to your Mustang amplifier to enable remote multi-function foot control. The footswitch display and LEDs show you some of the same information as the amplifier screen, so you can, for example, tune your guitar and select presets by watching the footswitch without ever looking at the screen onboard the Mustang III!

• Select Quick Access presets (QA1/QA2/QA3)
• Select presets (up/down/bank)
• Bypass effects
• Activate the Tuner

You can also use the 2-button and 4-button footswitches together to gain access to more than a dozen footswitch options:

6-Button Footswitching options

Plug both a 4-button and a 2-button footswitch into your Mustang amplifier to expand your remote control options. By assigning different functions to each footswitch you can create more than a dozen different foot control combinations.

For example, you could assign Quick Access presets to the 4-button footswitch and Up/Down presets to the 2-button footswitch. Or you could bypass effects with the 4-button footswitch and select presets with the 2-button footswitch.

I have a Mustang 1 and a Super Champ X2. I like the Mustang a lot, but I love the SCX2. I find it's much easier to work with to find the sound and tone I want. Two nice features on the Mustang that I wish the SCX2 had are a headphone output and an aux input. I like plugging a computer into the aux input to play backing tracks. And the headphones would just be nice now and then. That's why I kept the Mustang when I bought the SCX2.

The Mustang I and X2 are completely different classed amps. The M III can give the X2 a good run for the money and gives you more control over setting it up from the amp. After that, it comes down to preferences -- both are really good amps!

The Mustang I/II are quite distinct from their sibling Mustang III/IV/V models! Without using the software (FUSE or REMUDA) they operate very differently due to their different physical User Interfaces. The software nicely bridges that gap with common features, etc., but even the accessories are incompatible between the higher and lower models.

It may likely be even more disparate to attempt to compare the Super Champ X2 to the lower model Mustangs.

Thanks everyone. I agree that the Mustang I (i own one as well as the III) is not as easy to dial in due to limited on board space and yes, I would not compare a Mus I to a SDX2. I really like the aux and head phone jacks on the Mus III and they are a must for what I am and where I am playing, lol.

Also! Update! I have recently purchased the 4 button switch and now have the 6 button combo going and lo and behold I am picking up some great sounds off the Mustang III, lol. For Instance, "When Pigs Fly" (or something like that) has several Fx that i can remove and add back....I get it.

Thanks!

Awesome!

Once you're comfortable with the 4btn fsw's multi modes, post back with your preferences regardling using it in Normal mode vs Locking it (via Util Menu) to a single Mode. And, what Option (via Util Menu) you have set for your 2btn fsw.

It's unfortunate that none of the local stores in the Los Angeles area that I checked with had the EXP-1 in stock to try! My guess is a lot more EXP-1 pedals would be bought if customers had a chance to try them. I wound up buying one sight unseen, with no regrets! When you're ready to expand your feature set consider adding one for the MIII.

Just to add to the discussion, I have my 4-button locked into what I would call Stomp mode, (Mode 3?), and I use the 2-button to go up and down presets. I use the EXP-1 primarily as a volume pedal, but also to control amp gain on some presets, chorus depth on another one, I think. As always, it's a work in progress.
