Just bought the Mustang III V2 2 days ago and I can't wait to dig into the different sounds/presets. I feel like a little kid again!

Start with the "basic" presets (87-99 or something) and build up your own tone from their.

The other factory presets are way too bloated with effects.

They are incredibly fun amps indeed... and they're super flexible... just don't let the "learning curve" bug you out if not already used to how these amps work.

Coming from a purely analog/tube amp background (used tube amps only for years) it took a bit of getting used to... but, if you know how to dial in a tube amp... you'll find that the Mustang's are very intuitive once you get familiar with them.

There's some cool perks with the V2's... no need to go into Fuse to re-arrange the pedal chain (stuff like gain/dirt pedals before... or after the amp... or modulation before... or after the amp etc...)... and the XLR out is great for live/stage performance... trust me... the sound person will LOVE you... makes mixing soooooooo much easier on a stage than micing the amp... and they're great amps for recording with as well... just USB that bad boy into the mix and you're golden...
Enjoy your new amplifier

Thanks for the tips. I have owned multi-effects pedals in the past where you would adjust parameters and such, so I'm not too afraid of that. I do like the thought of starting with basic presets and working my way up. This is the first Fender amp I've owned since selling my '73 Bandmaster in 1988.

Congratulations! The MIII (v2) is a terrific choice! It's spkr gets even smoother sounding once it breaks in after several weeks of good loud use with Master Volume @ 5 or higher.

The 17 Basic modeled Amp presets are located in memory Presets 83-99. These are each without any FXs configured in any of the 4 FX banks (i.e. each Bank is set to "Empty"). As such, each of these Presets 83-99 reflect their true respective modeled amp's nature. Note these Basic Presets are NOT level adjusted to deliver the similar room volume level when switching betweem them! Each of these Basic modeled amp Presets has its own Gain, Volume, and several associated Advanced Amp (2x Amp button presses) parameters. These are set differently for each Amp, and these parameters are where you unleash the Mustang's magic! Many users find it helpful to go through these and customize them to achieve a similar room level when switching between these 17 Basic Amp Presets. And, subsequently use these customized versions as the basis for further customized presets.

The other 83 Presets (in Memories 00-82) are example combinations of any one of these 17 basic modeled amps configured in a variety of ways, often with one or more of the 44 FXs enabled.

The comforting thing to remember is that when you recall an Amp from the Amp menu (Amp Button -> Data Wheel) it comes into the current Preset you are editing with the amp parameters configured identically as the original factory default Basic Amp Preset 83-99 counterpart (i.e w/o any customized adjustments)! Thus, you loose nothing by freely changing, tweaking, or overwriting any of these original Memory Presets 83-99 as you desire therby Saving them as your own customized Preset(s). The other 83 Preset Memories are also equally available to overwrite, however, those do NOT contain the basic amps with all factory default parameters unchanged. Many parameters have been changed in those 83 examples aside from having FXs enabled. In other words, the modeled Amp selection may be the same modeled amp, but with several of its Amp and/or Advanced Amp parameters altered from the Basic modeled version.

You may always do a Factory Reset to revert the amp to factory settings.

If you have an Android device check out the REMUDA App from the Google Play Store! It does thkngs FUSE lacks, such as: drag and drop Preset repositioning, remembering your preferred modeled amp's parameters settings, and remembering your preferred FX parameter settings.

Depending on your musical tastes, there are likley numerous Presets amongst the 100 Memory Presets that you may feel are of little to no interest.

Also be sure to check out the many excellent Presets available freely for download from the Fender Online FUSE Community.

One final tip.... As the Mustang always powers up to Preset 00, Write your preferred Preset configuration to 00. I chose to set that as the Basic Studio Preamp. I first Saved Memory Preset 00 to Memory Preset 83. The edited Memory Preset 00 tomuse the Basic Studio Preamp modeled amp, Set the FX banks to Empty and renamed it. Effectively swapping Memory Presets 83 and 00 intomthe other's slot. With REMUDA this is a simple drag and drop.

Glad to help!

The 4btn fsw is a terrifically versatile accessory for the MIII!

Another great option is the EXP-1 Expression (& Volume) Pedal. It adds 100 variable FX option settings -- one for each Memory Preset -- plus Volume control, and it works great!

Congratulations on the Mustang!! You will have HOURS and HOURS of enjoyment experimenting and discovering all the awesome things this amp can do! I've had my V1 since 2012 and I'm STILL learning new things about it.. And as another poster said, it's GREAT for home recording either via the USB or the Headphone jack. And you can get a GREAT bass amp sound out of it as well with the '59 Bassman. I also use it for keyboards and get a great Fender Rhodes tone... ENJOY, brother!
