So after reading and listening to what I could find...

It seems like the 'Code' is a Marshall-centric modeling amp that can also approximate a couple of other amp brands (Fender, Vox, etc.).

The 'Mustang' is a Fender-centric modeling amp that can also approximate a couple of other amp brands (Marshall, Vox, etc.).

If I have to choose one (and right now that is the case) I'm sticking with the Fender. As much as I like Marshall amps, I just like the Fender sound a little better.

Andertons has a new video of the CODE 50 up and it sounds pretty good to me. The Captain obviously can't dial in a good metal tone, probably should have used one of the presets for that, but the clean tones sound pretty darn good. I'm looking forward to trying one of these out later in the year.

It wouldn't even be that big a cost for them to do all this stuff.

Then agin Marshall have missed a trick by not making an Android app for their new thing - but looks good otherwise - just like a Mustang!

Marshall has got an Android / iOS app ...and its free!. Bluetooth, the works!! :)

I agree TOTALLY! I love Marshall, and have been using a digital version of the JCM800 as one of my main tones for a few years now, and will continue to do so, on my newly acquired MVv2.
I will give them the blue tooth deal. I AM envious of that feature. But, it won't make me dislike the Mustang. And I was wondering, a couple hundred (computer) years ago, I put a wifi adapter (they called it a "Dongle" I think) on a computer that didn't come wireless. Would it be possible to do something like that to the amp? I don't know if you would have a power supply handy.

Like I say, I do like Marshall, but, am I the only one who felt like these British folk were yelling "We are the Mods, we are the Mods, we're we're we're the Mods!" (Quadrophenia quote) In other words, a little British love there. The Marshal guy also said, when he was changing cab emulations on the Plexi preset, that "...it actually works." I take offense to that. The cab settings on my MVv2 "actually work" too!

As usual, I close by saying, you like what you like. This will, obviously, be "better" to some people than our trusty mustys. But, I have a Mustang. I don't have to buy anything to have that kind of amp. I'm sticking with it.

well, I'm a lover of BOTH Fender and Marshall amps, and have a very nice Marshall setup here in my studio. I have a Deville Hot Rod 4x10 that is used in the band I am in, with a good set of pedals to compliment.

I also have a III and a IV mustang that get a lot of use as well and a GA30RVS Goldtone Combo that sounds awesome. Like I need another amp? and still.. my evil plan is to pickup 50 watt 1x12 CODE combo at some point. cuz like guitars, u can't have too many amps ... can you?

They don't even seem to be available till later this year anyway,,, (mid/late July)

The CODE and the natural evolution of technology, probably has a lot of features the mustangs don't....bear in mind the mustangs are now based on about 6 year old technology, so with the code, we could be looking at the next gen of modeling combos..

regarding remote controls, I believe with REMUDA (SP?) and a USB Bluetooth adapter dangling off the amp one can use an android device w/Fuse. more on REMUDA here" viewtopic.php?f=27&t=100626

for me, it's of no consequence, I bought a 20ft usb extension cable and just run it to the PC that is in my home studio, Fuse is readily available via USB for me using what equates to about a 27 foot cable that's neatly tucked away, connecting the amp and pc.

.... Meanwhile you have an independent developer creating the Remuda program and posting on this very forum. .... Wouldn't you have liked to see them playing that Strat in the video, plugged into a new line of Mustang amplifiers? Maybe next year...

My feelings exactly. And for the record, MusicLaw is a very ardent supporter of Remuda (and perhaps its best publicist), but he is not the developer. I am just wrapping up my Bluetooth support in Remuda and I hope to have it out by 12/1/2016. I'm always looking for feedback so feel free to drop me a line at the "support" email shown in GPS. Regards, Robert

Just checked out the CODE series on Marshall's website... No mention of an effects loop, nor of any line-out/XLR-out.

NO THANKS, I think I will pass.

It does have direct out through the USB port.

But no, like the lower end Mustang amps, it does not have an effects loop. It isn't as useful on a solid state amp as a tube amp, but would still be nice if you e.g. wanted your own reverb after built-in effects. But for the price, you don't get it.
If you really need an effects loop on a cheap modern modeling amp, a Boss Katana is your best bet, although its sound leaves a lot to be desired.

I'm late to the party reading this thread. However, there are some good points here for each comparison and decision as one chooses.

Some of the finest things in gear are simple and uncomplicated. The reverse is true also. I've had high Class A audio with limited controls and amazing specs. I've used Class B audio with a plethora of enhancements. Each had their respective acceptable sound qualities to be nourished. I once asked an engineer from Sony Corp. for his view on why they would add some unneeded frequency disabling component to a specific otherwise perfected preamp. It basically comes down to this. Poor specs and great sound trumps great specs and poor sound as he put it. No argument from me.

Nowadays, we have features and convenience often over quality and, perhaps, audio whether it's stereo trickled down to USB mono audio played on mini speakers (Wi-Fi is an improvement even over that), or digital striving for that analog quality, it all reeks of VHS versus Beta history. It's the old give me more even if I lose out somewhere in this transition. I'll take what I can now, and sit it out waiting for the catch up AgAiN.

It does bring to my mind how quick people decide to make a change simply based on the lack of or added features without experiencing the full plate of features presently available for experimentation.

This, of course, does not fit everyone as some will have a history of full use or time with said equipment. One example of short sightedness would be like a relative of mine who will constantly upgrade cameras without taking the former to its full capability. Still, if it's one or more particular feature desired, perhaps, that new purchase may be the right choice. One might want to consider, however, what might be lost or could have been done with the former. A lot of interest is always directed to "If it's newer it must be better". I believe there is enough evidence to show this not to be written in stone. The plugin industry thrives on bringing back old technology virtualization. It's almost as good as the original.

Having said that, Marshall and others are making strides in the digital arena. In all of this, convenience rules in a land of immature ever evolving nonstandard digital. The many choices will be here today, and replaced tomorrow.

As for Fender Mustang . . . I will keep my Mustang IV v1 for the purpose it was designed for, and for the price. To supplement it with a future consideration is not out of the question. A new worthy Mustang IV, especially one that can move effects in whatever order desired and, perhaps, with ordered effect duplication options, a future Mustang or similar will suit me fine. Real tube options might be an area of interest too. Weight goes without saying so going lighter using a head amp with a matching twin cab to supplement or replace the combo would be appreciated.

I look at it this way. Mustang is and will be a classic. Good or bad, it's not perfect, nor is a '57 Chevy perfection, and I like those wheels better than many new ones. But, that's just me. YMMV.

FSB
Not to say I don't appreciate the new, I'm just thankful we never missed all those great song releases and tones that came in simpler times. Otherwise, digital reproduction would be less interesting. IMHO

Over one year now since my original post. The Marshall CODE line consists of the 25 and 50 and Marshall was never able to deliver on the 100 Combo or Head models. Winter NAMM is approaching and while I still would like to see an updated Fender Mustang, I realize that it's pretty doubtful. The Mustang IV is still one of the best amps in it's price range IMO. I still wish there was an updated version that incorporated some of the more modern hardware and software tech available today but it must be too costly for Fender to develop at this price point. There was a post earlier about the Anderton's modeling amp shootout https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7sinWiPTp0 and all those amps are coming in at a relatively low price point. I know I can get the Mustang IV to sound great on clean tones and relatively great Marshallish tones. The more I think about it the more I wish there was an updated version of the amp and software, which kept the same build quality and gigability of the Miii and Miv amps yet at a higher price point with higher end hardware and software.

Fender Mustang Pro line anyone?

Mustang Pro 65 ($800) and Mustang Pro 150 ($950)

-Single Celestion Creamback G12M-65 in the 65
-Two Celestion Creamback G12H-75 speakers in the 150
-Same hardware features as the Miii (65) and Miv (150) (dual xlr outs, stereo effects loop, foot switches etc.)
-High quality models for Reverbs, Delays, Distortion, etc. (think ambient reverbs and delays Strymon, Empress, Neunaber, etc. and some of the higher gain pedals out now EVH 5150 pedal, Friedman BE-OD, Wampler Pinnacle line, Seymour Duncan Palladium etc.) with the ability to add new pedals pedals as they are developed. These could all be Fender branded models of high end effects. You could even sell real pedals that emulate the software versions. Think of that... people buying Hardware Pedals that emulate Software pedals.
-Single button on amp for speaker and cabinet emulation bypass (direct output to Celestions)
-Updated Fuse software to tweak the all the models
-Bluetooth connectivity and iOS/Android support with real time control of the amp and save to amp
-Updated Fuse community site to share patches, etc.

I have to believe there is a market for a Fender branded, sub $1000 modeling combo that delivers great build quality, high end effects and still be a gig worthy combo.

I'm surprised that Kemper, BIAS, AxeFX, etc. hasn't already come out with one of these.

I'm still available to help you head up a new solid state amp line Fender, have your Marketing folks give me a call. =)

Winter NAMM is in 5 weeks. It will be interesting to discover more about Fender's 2017 Amp plans, whatever those may turn out to be.

My Fender Mustang IV v.2, and Fender Mustang III v.2 have been outstanding! Now I'm using them as powered cabs, particularly the MIV in stereo, with my new Line 6 HELIX!

According to Bloomberg, a new bluetooth amp series is on the way.

"Fender's newest amp model, to be released next year, will be able to connect to apps wirelessly, through Bluetooth, to let players alter and share sound effects."

My guess is that this will likely be in the low-end/consumerist market segment, as a replacement for the unmaintained Mustang series. The midrange segment already got new amps last year with the Bassbreaker series, and as for higher end, well, Fender seems to have abandoned that market.
