I really like my Mustang IV but...

Andertons YouTube Review Marshall CODE Amps - NAMM 2016

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFGfoYqTkSg

I really like my Mustang IV but the new Marshall CODE Series of Amps is to me, more the direction in which I wish Fender were taking the Mustang line. Bluetooth editing via iOS/Android is something I would have liked to see Fender announce built into a new series of Mustang Amps at NAMM this year but sadly there is nothing new in the Mustang lineup. Instead Fender is spending money acquiring Aurisonics to come out with their own line of Fender headphones??? Meanwhile you have an independent developer creating the Remuda program and posting on this very forum.

Come on Fender! Doesn't that embarrass you?

Wouldn't you have liked to see them playing that Strat in the video, plugged into a new line of Mustang amplifiers?

Maybe next year...

Marshall Code 25W and 50W are out now and a 100W combo and Head will also be available. Might be time for me to make a switch.

I bet the money heads don't think about music - they think about brand expansion - it's all about the shareholders imho.
It wouldn't even be that big a cost for them to do all this stuff.

Then agin Marshall have missed a trick by not making an Android app for their new thing - but looks good otherwise - just like a Mustang!

Marshall Gateway app is both iOS and Android
https://marshallamps.com/gateway/

The more I look into this product the more I want it. I'm curious to see what the clean tones are like. I connect to my amp via a wireless guitar lead and the idea of being able to be far away from the amp and play while tweaking the various sound options from my phone or tablet will be really convenient.

It's disappointing that Fender doesn't have this. They have most of the pieces in place (Fuse, tone sharing, etc.) and even had the Floor product that took advantage of the same tech, but seem to have gone silent on the direction of this product line.

Imagine a new Mustang / Floor product that refreshes the Fuse editing and tone sharing software for PC and Mac but also adds Bluetooth connectivity to allow a Fuse iOS and Android app to modify, control and save configurations back to the DSP in the amp and Floor. Wrap that up in the Fender brand name and launch the new the Mustang / Floor product.

Fender are you hiring? =)

Well if Marshall's new CODE line of amp modelling doesn't do Fender it is a deal breaker for sure for me and so far I am seeing only Marshall amp line modelling. On my Mustangs I pretty much stick to only the Fender amps and the 80's Marshall. Emulations done very well IMHO.

The Marshall CODE amps do indeed do emulation of Fender amps. "American Clean" for example. Just like the Fender Mustang (and FUSE) can't say "Marshall" and "Orange" and use euphemisms, the Marshall can't say Fender. But they are there. Over a hundred amp emulations.

And just like the Mustang, all of them sound somewhat boxy.

To me it doesn't matter what features it has. It could have all my imagined holy grail features but if the mustang has ONE tone that is a main tone for me thats better, I'd pass and keep the mustang. Features, no matter how many or how good take a back seat to tone and feel by a mile for me, and because i have everything i have ever wanted tone-wise in my MIIIV2, i have zero interest in the code. 2 years on I can honestly say that the mustang is the first amp in 43 years of playing that hasn't left me wondering whats out there that's better. 2 years of 100% total and complete happiness. And if i have learned one thing about gear in all those years, it's that the old saying "if it ain't broke don't fix it" is the most important rule there is. But if something is even "broke" to a tiny tiny degree i will ignore that age old saying and always have an eye out even if i am not actively looking. However, for me the mustang just isn't broke to any degree. Granted, it's so tweakable that finding that last drop of tone that takes it form great to "no way I'm looking at other amps" is very time consuming, but it's fun too and the rewards are impressive. I continue even after 2 years to occasionally find new great tones. Just happened a few weeks ago in fact, and i now have another very different and fantastic sounding and feeling tone i have not been able to stop playing since i found it. To keep finding new and great tones every now and then is itself sorta like getting a new amp ! You can keep the code.....i'm too happy to even think about fixin' what ain't even slightly broke !

So I recently saw the new marshall offerings as well. and I like what I see and hear.

I have two mustangs, but it's ok.. I've gotten 4+ years of great use out of them.

Just like smart phones, PCs and anything else that rides the technology wave. when you buy in, is when you buy in, what happens 4/5 years after the fact, hardly fair to draw a comparison.

I was a bit surprised to see no new offerings for Fender in this area yet. I had thought they'd have announced a replacement for the Mustangs, as you say,, maybe next year. I guess it's just you either upgrade, or you don't

The good news with the CODE amps, is they are priced in almost direct competition to the mustangs.

and btw oczad, check them out, the demos are quite impressive. I'd hit one for sure..

Be vary that you don't venture into choice supportive bias here.

You seem to be perilously close to deciding that the Mustang has what it needs and others don't without trying the others.

Yes but by that definition we're trapped by whatever we decide - if we hate something we're exhibiting the opposite - else why so many angry threads across the webs?
You like to tell everyone tubes are better and we're all foolish..
It's just an opinion, all of it - there's no universal best amp or universal best anything.
Get the best out of what you have and resist GAS!

Yeah, I understand what your saying regarding the names and somewhere in my searches I saw American Clean but what is it? A Twin? a Deluxe?... and nowhere could I find a sound sample that wasn't all Marshall. Would you happen to have a link? Also, is that scotch or whiskey you keep pouring? Inquiring minds would like to know.

It also looks like it could also be a fine Tequilla Añejo. ;)

No, I don't. When have I ever said that?

Tube amps are good for what tube amps do best.
Solid State is good for what Solid State does best.

One of my next purchases is going to be a Solid State amp - a Yamaha THR100H.

There's nothing wrong with solid state amps. There's plenty wrong with the Mustang (I own one). But at the exceptionally low price, it's a good home/practice amp. You don't see many guitarists gigging with them. If you can, good for you. If you can't, choose something else.
