I have both a Mustang Floor (v1) and a Mustang III (v2). I use the Floor at church, running direct to the PA board because it is easy, gives the sound guy better control of the mix, and reduces stage volume. The problem is I don't like the sound.

I use the MIII at home for practice, and I can easily dial in thick creamy tones, regardless of the guitar used. I can program the same parameters into the Floor, and through the PA it sounds nothing like the MIII. It sounds thin, and adding gain results in a horrible, gritty distortion.

When I use headphones for the MIII it gives a similar tone as the Floor through the PA.... crappy, and not at all the way it sounds through the speaker.

It seems that the only way to get the sound I want is to use the MIII miced, but I would rather not do that. Any suggestions?

Try different eq settings in Util : combo, pa, stack etc.

I haven't got a good sound in my PA either....

Try this with the Floor. Utility / Output Configure set it to Stereo / Output Voicing set it to PA System and then run two XLR cables out of the XLR out which is balanced and preferred or two 1/4 inch unbalanced cable outs to your PA. Now pan the the two PA channels hard left and right and EQ to your hearts content but start flat. See if that helps. Tweak your Floor's patches as well in unison to what your doing with the PA's EQ. It is all about tweaking and I understand that in the context of a mix with a band you might not want your guitar to be panned that way but just see how it sounds with the aforementioned configuration.

You might try the loop's send instead of the DI. I'm not sure, but i think the XLR may be before the cab sims and the loop before. But in any case whether or not thats the case, try the send. No loss in trying it. Personally tho i have always had issues thru the PA with any amp, even mic'd the sound is usually much harsher than the amp itself.

I beg to disagree. If your getting a much harsher sound through the PA than from your amp then you are using the wrong or even a bad mic and placement or the sound engineer or whoever is running the board isn't doing their job right.

On the Floor however I forgot to mention that there is an output level knob on the back and i have found that you do not want this past half way up. This kind of goes against the grain from traditional thinking with a lot of electronics, but it is, just the way it is, with the Floor.

I thought he mentioned just going direct, and did not mention anything about micing...

I must admit, I've only used the DI once, on an MIII and not for long.

and, I wasn't happy with it either,

every time I've had to use these live, I've mic'd them.
