Plugging headphones into my new amp produces a fast-repeating chirping sound - any thoughts on a fix or did I get a bad amp? This is definitely not a traditional "hiss" sound.

Originally I could hear the guitar playing along with the chirp, now I just get the chirp. Changing any of the amp's settings or effects doesn't seems to make any difference.

Background information:
*Brand new Fender Mustang 1 (v2) just received yesterday
*Plugged into a normal wall power socket
*AMP speaker does not produce the sound at all - it's quiet.
*Performed a factory reset - same issue
*Tested with two different (decent quality) studio headsets w/ guitar plugged and unplugged from amp - same issue

Any help is greatly appreciated, let me know if there is additional information that I can provide. I've read about folks having issues with their headphone jacks breaking, but I couldn't find any information about a similar repeating chirping sound. Unfortunately, I don't believe there's a service center near me in East Tennessee so if it is a bad amp I'm probably just going to return it :(

Maybe try it in another location first. Could be ambient EM noise (computers, switching power supplies, flourescent lights...)

Thanks for the initial feedback folks, here's an update:

I did try moving the amp to another location across the house on another breaker. Interestingly enough, that seems to have completely stopped the issue with the repeating chirping noise from the headphone jack.

That's awesome, but still doesn't solve why the chirping still occurs in all the outlets in my office - where I want to practice.

As someone pointed out earlier the chirping only occurs from the headphone outlet, not the speaker itself. So that's why I initially ruled out electrical interference - but maybe that is still the case.

For reference - here are the things that are plugged into outlets around the office:
*UPS - with computer and other electronics connected through that in case of power outage
*Powerline Adapter - allows ethernet to connect to another router on the 1st floor
*Inkjet Printer
*Humidifier

Any thoughts that those could be the culprits - I'll test them out by removing one by one to see if I can figure it out, but anyone with electrical engineering experience have a thought as to why any of those could cause the noise on the headphone jack, but not the speaker? Can I replace the speaker's power cable to something that has more shielding in-line to prevent this?

Again thanks for the questions and feedback

Rather than troubleshooting, it may be easier to simply exchange the amp for a new one at the store from where you bought it. Bring your headsets to check the new one!

Another thought is that you may be hearing the Delay's repeat Interval FX in the background noise of the selected Preset; if thr Delay FX might be enabled. I saw you posted that no FX were active, but it only takes a moment to double check. Also, if you have a an AC line power filter/conditioner you may want to try using it to eliminate or reduce any AC power line noise.

Hope you get it sorted out....

Pulled out the Powerline adapter and the issue went away - I'm going to assume that that's the culprit. Still odd that it only causes an issue with the headphone output and not the normal speaker itself?

I may have to look into the line conditioner route, because I need the powerline adapter to stay where its at.

RF (Radio Frequency) and EMI (Electro Magnetic Interference) Power Line sources can be real gremlins to eliminate.

Now that you have isolated culprit, you will have a slightly easier time attempting to prevent the Interferenece from getting into to Amp. Although it is possible that the interference is getting into a latter stage of the amp's electronics only affecting the headphone feed, it is far more likely that the interference may be getting into the headphone's feed wire itself acting as an receiving antenna. There are small ferrite bead chokes that simply snap onto a wire that may eliminate the problem. Radio Shack and electronics stores sell them in various sizes. You can also try coiling the headphone feed wire into an 8" coil on the floor or your lap, solely to try and see if that may help choke out the Interference.

It may also be that the signal is present in the feed to the speaker, but is exceeds the speaker's top end frequency response so you do not hear it there, whereas, the output feeding tne headphones is full frequency response feed designed to service the Aux in playback of an mp3 player, etc.

A belated thank you for the suggestions again. :D

I ordered some ferrite cores to slap on headphones, power cords, and anything else they will fit on to see if fixes the noise.
