I know of at least one that does....mine. Am i the only unlucky bastage or has it been documented with V2 also? This is a real drag. Have the VERY rare gig nowadays NYE and now my amp is doing this. Can't win...

Oh, and yes, i not only tried a factory reset but went back to 2.1 firmware and back again to 2.2

Well, nevermind. I found the issue and it's exactly what i figured having repaired a lot of fender SS amps in the past. They use a lot of connectors like all modern electronics today. And connectors oxidize over time, often very quickly. On fender SS amps they usually have (or HAD, not sure about the current batch) a seperate DSP board a couple inches square that connects to the amp circuit via a ribbon cable. The cables go bad or the pins have issues at the solder joint of the connections just plain oxidize over time. I found on the mustang the DSP board is connected to the main board via 2 connectors that are NOT cables but male to female sockets. One is about 50 pin and the other maybe 20. And as you press the board down there are 2 standoffs and the connectors that you must line up and pop it back in. Anyways, i was very suspects of those connectors because with so many pins the chances of one making bad connection was high. So i removed it and hit them with Deoxit (contact cleaner) then also hit all the other wire connectors in the amp. The fizz is 100% gone.

I understand today's marketing strategies like built in obsolescence and such, but i will never understand the degree to which they will use so many unreliable connectors that can render an amp useless so quickly. I realize the warranty on these is good but the point is it's not a good feeling taking a product to a gig when you know issues like this aren't "if" but "when", and usually when is often and soon after you buy them.

Anyways, it's not fender, they all make em like this. It;s the nature of competition that they must or they won't be able to compete. Unfortunately most end users don't know how to service things like this and it makes it hard to depend on inexpensive amps. This inexpensive amp just happens to sound fantastic and make a great gigging amp aside from this kind of thing. Well, i guess you can always buy 2 and keep one in the car as a backup. Oh well. Anyways, glad i was able to get this done before NYE because i never get to play out anymore and when i do I look forward to it big time.

Thanks for posting your detailed findings! Great to know it was a relatively straight forward easy fix!

Curious to know where you live and in what sort of environmental climate conditions your Amp is stored, has been used, or transported through? Inland, Coastal, Humid, Arid? Even indoors, some regions and locations are more prone to causing electronic and optical equipment oxidation.

Even ordinary otherwise very low maintence metalic, electronic, and optical items, (indoor door knobs & hinges, electrical connectors, mirrors & camera lenses, etc.), can exhibit pronounced signs of oxidation when, for example, near the beach, or in a basement, garage or home with high humidity levels.

That's great that you sorted it out! Nice troubleshooting!

Just to be clear, there are absolutely ZERO v2 amps that have the same condition that plagued the v1 amps. The problem was hardware related, and has been resolved in v2.

Well, this was also hardware but whether or not the same thing i dunno. All i know is i was hearing what others have described, a fizz in the trailing end of the note. But those are words and it's a matter of how it's described and interpreted. Not a very exact way to do it, but in any case what was described sounded to me like what i heard.

I believe it was specifically the power amp design, nothing with connectors or cables.

In short, you get what you pay for.
The more features for the dollar, the less quality for the same buck.

Thanks for the posting the trouble-shooting tip.

I recently started to experience the same problem. Coincidentally, we've had a few power surges around here, and my concern is that my problems amp problems stem from that. I'll follow your tips before I decide whether to toss this unit.
