I'm re-posting this question again, from the Fuse forum. Should have posted here to begin with.

Let me make it clear from the beginning I am a novice. Been playing acoustic for about 2 years. I have had my Mustang III for about 3 months. Still getting used to it all. when I began exploring the presets right out of the box it was awesome. Last week I brought it to a gig where our lead guitarist had trouble with his BOSS or Digitech getting any volume out of the PA speakers. Nobody in the band could hear him. I think he was going through a DI box but am unsure. I let him use my Mustang, and he sounded great. Plenty of volume. But last week I wanted to practice some ACDC and now my Mustang sounds very different. Very clean. I can't find any crunch at all. I wanted to practice some Highway to Hell and now Aussie Rock sounds like crap when before it sounded pretty decent. I started spinning the preset dial and found no preset had any crunch at all. What could have happened? Did my friend change ALL my presets? I did the factory reset by pressing the exit button while turning on the amp, but it doesn't sound any different. The manual states to hold the exit button until it is no longer illuminated, but it never was illuminated from the start. The only thing illuminated while pressing exit is the Tap/Tuner button flashing at me.

I also downloaded an ACDC user preset using Fuse but it sounded clean as well.

How do I get my factory amp settings back?

Assuming you've confirmed there is nothing wrong with the guitar, or tried a known-working guitar with the same result, it sounds like the input jack might have been damaged.

Try the following to determine if the Factory Reset is working properly on your Amp.

With the Amp powered on, Press the UTIL Button, I think it's 8x, to reach the Memory Lock. Use the Data Wheel to set the Memory Lock "Off." Then Save and Exit the UTIL menu.

Next choose Preset "00." This is the Perset when the Amp powers up. Make a change to this Preset's values. As soon as you change anything in that Preset, the Save Button will illuminate Red. Press the Save button to Save (overwrite) that Preset. When the Preset Name Appears Add Your Initials to the Name of the Preset! This will make it obvious that you changed this Preset! (Note: It really doesn't matter what you change in the Preset as it will revert to Factory Default when the Factory Reset is performed (presuming it works)!

Then follow the instructions to perform the Factory Reset! If the Factory Reset works, the Preset you changed amd resaved will be back to its original name! If it still has your Initials, there is something wrong with your Amp's Firmware.

If you bought it new, you'll want to get it to an Authorized Fender Mustang repair facility for Warranty Service.

BY the way, pushing the UTIL button 10x will display the Firmware version installed in the Amp. The current version is 2.1.2. If you bought the Amp used, and it does not have the current Firmware installed you may download the zip file from the Fender Support area and install the Firmware package using FUSE. (Note: FUSE by itself will revert the Firmware to an older version if you attempt to use it to update the Amp's Firmware without first manually downloading the current Firmware package! FUSE does not know it is outdated.)

Finally, if you are able to practice with your guitar through amp, the instrument input jack is not the root problem.

Aside from the FUSE Firmware process, all of the above should be done directly on the Amp without it connected to your PC nor FUSE running!

Hope this helps.

To the OP

One of the guys above mentioned that it might be your guitar - he could be right.

I had a similar problem with my Blackstar ID amp.I was getting sound from the amp but no " gain" at all - all of my presets sounded "clean".

Turned out to be some dirt in the Volume pot of my guitar ( Blacktop HSH Strat) - a quick spray of contact cleaner in and around the pot /wiring did the trick.

also, if you have active pickups, try putting in a fresh 9V battery....

I disagree, a damaged (but still partially functional) jack can give you exactly what is described above ... a really weak sound. I know this because I have experienced it first hand. Same goes for a bad wire.

Let's hope you're right! If all he needs is to clean or replace the amp's input jack, his instrument cable or something on the guitar, his amp may otherwise be fine.

Agreed, if the signal level reaching the Amp's front end were so attenuated that it isn't driving the amp nor FX to a usable level, then sure it could be the guitar's pickups, pots, switch, output jack, cable, etc., essentially anything attenuating the signal chain.

Nonetheless, the OP mentioned "volume" only in the context that there was "plenty," when referring to the other guitarist's use of the Mustang at the gig. The OP describes the problems as "very clean," lacking "crunch," and doubting that the Reset worked. He didn't indicate that it was too quite, low volume, or not loud enough.
