Hey everyone!

I purchased my first Mustang IV off a local gigging musician. Amp is in really great shape and appears to be working perfectly in conjunction with Fuse, etc. Today I noticed that the Middle tone control knob/pot seems to be dead between 1-3 - if you slowly sweep the knob between these two positions there is no movement on the LCD display - its' either 1 or auto jumps to 3.6 on the LCD display, which at this point when you keep turning picks up at 3.6 and works fine right through until 10.

I am guessing this is not an easy fix as its likely electronic? I am not sure if there is warranty left on this thing or not - trying to touch base with the local musician I purchased it from.

You can see what I am talking about in this short youtube video I made:

A work around to using the dedicated Middle Tone knob is to tap the Amp Button. Then tap the Data Wheel until the Middle Tone Knob is seleted in the LCD Display. This will give you full and direct control of the Middle Freq Tone control.

As you mentioned the Mid Tone control works correctly via FUSE, there is a very good chance that the Data Wheel method should work!

By the way, how does the problem present when you physically turn the knob to a mid position beyond the first third up from 0, then change Preset and use the knob again to vary the value? Is the dead spot recalibrated to another dead spot within the full range of the knob, or is the problem always in the first 1/3 of the knob's rotational range?

As I recollect, the Mustangs have a 5 year transferable Warranty. So you should contact Fender directly to see if they'll cover this for you. The defect is probably nothing more complicated than cleaning or replacing the Pot.

Also, if the MIV you bought is a v2, and if you have an Android device, the Remuda App gives convenient full Preset editing and deep Amp control! And, it also has a teriffic Performance mode.

Hope this helps....

Ya I guess I never thought of that - doing the amp values from the data wheel works fine! However, ultimately I guess I would rather have both the data wheel and the physical knob to be working. Since I bought it used, I do not have a receipt, unfortunately :/

The knob has a dead spot throughout all of the presets it seems - its physical performance is problematic.

If you have a v2, they have not been out for 5 years! The Serial Number should give (Fender) an indication of how new/old it is. If you can get anything to substantiate that you bought it from the original purchaser, Fender might accept that for Warranty coverage. It's worth a try. Otherwise, contact your nearest Fender Mustang svc shop and see what they'll charge to fix it.

Judging by the accent, the OP is from Canada. I'm no expect on Canadian law, but I believe most if not all Canadian provinces have a "legal warranty" concept (like most of the world except the US), where the warranty is attached to the product, and not the buyer. I.e. the warranty can not be voided by the manufacturer if the product changes hands. And there's also a minimum legal warranty period, and the manufacturer can only extend that, not shorten it.
So if the Mustang was originally bought in Canada, and the original receipt still exists (or can be called up by the merchant), and there's no sign of water damage or other user damage, I believe this has a good chance of being covered.

Didn't see the vid. The plugin does not run on this Android tablet. The OP did not post a direct link to the vid. Hope he can get it covered and fixed.
