What is the difference between preset open and preset import? Both buttons open the same folder on my PC

Good question. When you click on Open preset it will open the saved preset with all of its parameters for the amp, fx and and band(backing track if saved) straight into Fuse along with the preset name.
If you click on Import it will open the preset and give you a drop down menu so as you can choose what parts of the preset you want. (Note. This is a new preset you are building. It will have no name until you name and save it)You can choose from
1. The amp and its parameters as saved.
2. The FX and the parameters as saved.
3. The band/backing track if saved with the preset.
I don't use it myself, however I can see how it could be of help in building new presets.
Hope this helps.

I can tell you know your way around FUSE.

Is there any easy way, well any way, to save a preset straight to my hard drive?

In Fuse, once you get a preset the way you want, the best way I have found to name and save presets is the following.
Go to the top left of the Fuse screen and click on Main Menu. Mouse over to File and select Save Preset As. Input a name click OK.
The preset will be saved in the Fuse sub-folder named Presets.
(A.K.A. The Media Library)

Now if you open a preset that is named and want to change something and save it as the same name and over-write the original just click on the save radio button after making the changes which will be glowing red. Be careful doing things this way though. There is no trap "Are you sure you want to overwrite this preset" It will overwrite the preset immediately when the save button is clicked on. This is also true for the save preset in the drop down menu under (Top left of screen) Main Menu / File.
Hope this helps.

Perfect - thanks John!!!

I just noticed that, although Fuse had changed a bunch of the presets on the Mustang as I was experimenting, the presets were back to normal when I turned the amp off and back on again.???

The only thing I noticed that wasn't working for me... when I went to save... or save as... a new preset that I have created, I was not given the opportunity to enter my name in the Author field.

Any thoughts on this??

You can't type your name in the box for Author or the name of the preset. You need to be logged into the Fender Fuse Forum. Make your preset, then when you go to Preset Info your login name will be there as the Author. Fill in other info, and save preset as (Name of your choice) Now when you check the preset Info everything should be there.
Hope this helps.
